Customer & Technical Support Specialist – Wood Finishes
Osmo Wood and Colour Canada Ltd. — Cambridge, ON
Full-time | In person
Salary: CA$60,000–CA$70,000 per year, depending on experience
Have you worked as a painter, wood finisher, cabinetmaker or in a related trade? Put your practical experience to work helping customers choose and use wood finishes with confidence.
Osmo Wood and Colour Canada Ltd. supplies premium German wood finishes to retailers, professionals and woodworking enthusiasts. We’re looking for a patient, practical communicator to take ownership of our 1-844-OSMOCAN customer support calls and
[email protected] inbox from our Cambridge location.
You’ll help homeowners, tradespeople and dealers with product selection, preparation, application and troubleshooting. Success in this role means understanding the project, asking the right questions and providing clear, accurate advice.
What you’ll do
- Handle incoming customer calls and emails, prioritise enquiries and follow through until the customer has a clear next step.
- Help customers select suitable finishes based on the wood, project, existing coating, intended use and desired appearance.
- Explain preparation, application, drying, maintenance and repair using current product instructions and technical information.
- Investigate finishing problems by asking targeted questions, reviewing photographs and understanding the preparation and application history before recommending a remedy.
- Keep clear records of enquiries, advice and follow-up; escalate complex or uncertain cases appropriately.
- Communicate calmly with frustrated customers and explain technical information in straightforward language.
- Share recurring questions and issues with the team to improve customer guidance and product education.
What you’ll bring
- Practical industry experience working with wood finishes, ideally as a painter and decorator, wood finisher, cabinetmaker, furniture maker, flooring skilled, refinisher or in a closely related role.
- Hands-on understanding of surface preparation, sanding, existing coatings, finish compatibility, application methods and common finishing problems.
- The ability to turn technical information into clear, useful advice for customers with different levels of experience.
- A professional telephone manner and strong written English for customer email support.
- Good judgement: you check current instructions and seek clarification when needed instead of guessing.
- Comfort using email and computer systems, maintaining accurate records and managing several open enquiries.
Previous customer service or technical support experience would be valuable. Experience with Osmo products is an asset; relevant finishing knowledge and the ability to learn our product range are essential.
How to apply
Please submit your résumé and answer the application questions about your own finishing experience, troubleshooting approach and written customer advice. Use specific examples of work you personally completed. We assess practical knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, accuracy and clear communication.
Work location: In person at 420 Thompson Dr, Cambridge, Ontario.
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
Application question(s):
- Practical finishing experience (150 words maximum): Describe a wood-finishing project you personally completed. Include the wood, its starting condition, preparation, finish, application method and result. What did you personally do, and what would you change next time?
- Technical troubleshooting (150 words maximum): A customer says their finished tabletop remains sticky and has uneven shiny patches. What information would you gather before recommending a remedy? Explain how the answers would guide your next steps, including when you would check product instructions or escalate the enquiry. We assess your diagnostic reasoning, not a guessed product-specific fix.
- Written customer advice (150 words maximum): Draft your first email reply to this customer: "I have bought a used oak dining table and want to refinish it with Osmo. I do not know what is on it now. Can I apply your oil over the existing finish, and which product should I use?" Ask the questions you need answered and explain useful next steps. Do not invent product performance or safety claims. We assess clarity, practical judgement and accuracy.
