WE ARE HIRING: MUSIC DIRECTOR (PART-TIME)

Southminster United Church has an immediate opening for a passionate and collaborative Music Director to lead our Chancel Choir and help shape our vibrant music ministry!

As an Affirming Ministry, Southminster United Church values the theology and worship practices of The United Church of Canada, specifically regarding inclusive liturgical language.

Key Responsibilities:

- Choral Leadership: Lead weekly choir rehearsals (currently held on Wednesday evenings) and direct the Chancel Choir during regular Sunday morning services (Sept–June), including special services like Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday.
- Collaborative Planning: Work alongside the Minister, Organist/Pianist, and the Worship & Music Committee for weekly and long-range music planning. This includes attending staff and committee meetings.
- Music Administration: Maintain the church music library, manage music budget, and coordinate guest musicians.
- Program Growth:

Foster a welcoming environment for singers of all skill levels,



and exploring program enhancements such as special choirs or a handbell choir.

Qualifications & Attributes:

- Experience in choral music leadership.
- Familiarity with Christian tradition, Scripture, and United Church theology/worship practices.
- Good interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, ministry, and church committees.
- Asset: Proficiency on the piano or organ is a plus!

Position Details:

- Hours: Part time (10 hours/week)
- Contract: 10-month renewable contract (September to June). Ideally you would start Dec. 1, 2026. Our interim music director will work with you in December to help you transition into the role.
- Schedule: Weekly rehearsals, and Sunday morning services, and select liturgical holidays.
- Compensation: $1,100 – $1,200 monthly (based on experience)
