Formwork Carpenter — Dow Path2Zero, Fort Saskatchewan

Confluence is sourcing formwork carpenters for the contractors building the Dow Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero project.

The work

Industrial formwork on a heavy industrial site — foundations, pilecaps, pedestals, grade beams and walls for the cracker, the derivatives units and site infrastructure. Forming is on the Doka formwork system.

- Read drawings and specifications and lay out the work
- Build, set, plumb, brace and align wall, column and slab forms
- Erect and strip panel and gang forms
- Set anchor bolts, embeds and templates to line and grade
- Work with rebar crews and cement finishers through placement and pour
- Strip, clean, repair and move forms for reuse
- Shoring and re-shoring, and working safely around cranes and rigging

What you need

- A journeyperson carpenter certificate, or the hours to demonstrate journeyperson-level experience. Carpenter is an optional certification trade in Alberta — if you have the hours and the employment history to support them, apply
- Industrial or heavy commercial formwork experience
- Experience with the Doka formwork system is an asset
- Safety tickets including CSTS and Fall Protection
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Able to work at Fort Saskatchewan on the schedule below

Schedule and rate

- Start date: as soon as possible
- 5 days on, 2 days off — four 10-hour days and one 8-hour day, 48 hours a week
- $49.38 per hour, plus 10% vacation and statutory holiday pay, and employer-paid health and welfare and RSP
- Rate and terms set by the collective agreement in place for the project
- Living-out allowance for travellers. Workers whose permanent home is 120 km or more from the Fort Saskatchewan site, and who are permanent residents of a Canadian province or territory, may qualify for a living-out allowance of $170 per day worked and travel assistance for each rotation, where the hiring contractor's project offers the program. Eligibility is confirmed by the hiring contractor.

Multi-year project with opportunities closer to home

Path2Zero is a multi-year expansion and retrofit at Dow's existing Fort Saskatchewan manufacturing site in Alberta's Industrial Heartland.

The project's multi-year construction schedule creates ongoing workforce needs for participating contractors and opportunities for qualified tradespeople based in the region.

How this works

Confluence provides administrative candidate-sourcing support for the independent contractors performing construction work on Path2Zero. With consent, Confluence will collect applications and resumes of qualified tradespeople and provide it to one or more participating contractors for their review. Neither Dow nor Confluence is offering employment through this posting.

Dow owns the project, but each contractor is solely responsible for its own recruitment, hiring decisions, employment offers, pay, supervision and employment terms, subject to any applicable collective agreement.

Apply through this posting to be considered by participating contractors. Submission of an application does not guarantee an interview or employment. Any employment relationship will be solely between the successful applicant and the hiring contractor.

What you would be building

Path2Zero includes a brownfield expansion and retrofit of Dow's existing Fort Saskatchewan site. Planned project components include a new ethylene cracker with carbon-capture technology, expanded polyethylene production, power and steam cogeneration, and upgrades to roads, rail, utilities and other site infrastructure. The project is intended to create an integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site with net-zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide emissions.
