Job Summary

Maiwa is a Vancouver-based textile company with a long history of working directly with artisan textile makers around the world. For nearly 40 years, we have been building a business around beautiful cloth, natural dyes, thoughtful design and long-term relationships with the people who make our textiles.

We are looking for an experienced industrial sewer to join our small production team and take over an established line of organic cotton bedding and home textiles.

This is not conventional garment-factory production. Our bedding is made from beautiful hand-printed cloth, often produced in small quantities. Each textile is individually measured and cut before being sewn into our duvets, fitted sheets and pillow cases.

The sewing itself is straightforward, but it requires someone who takes care in precision, consistency and careful handling of beautiful cloth.

The work

- Sewing duvet covers, pillowcases, fitted sheets
- Sewing button holes, and buttons
- Working with natural-fibre textiles
- Measuring and cutting individual textile pieces to established specifications
- Operating industrial sewing machines
- Pressing and finishing completed pieces
- Maintaining consistent seam allowances and finished dimensions
- Inspecting your own work and catching problems before pieces move forward

- Working independently while communicating with the Maiwa production team
- Occasionally helping with cutting, preparation or other textile production tasks

What we’re looking for

You are an experienced sewer who is comfortable working on industrial machines and enjoys producing careful, consistent work.

You have:

- Several years of experience with industrial sewing
- Strong attention to detail
- Good understanding of fabric grain, tension, seam allowances and construction
- The ability to work independently and manage a repeatable production process
- Pride in workmanship and an appreciation for natural textiles
- Experience working with woven fabrics

A little about the position

This is a small-scale production environment rather than a high-volume factory.

Our previous sewer was part of Maiwa for 35 years, and we are looking for someone who might enjoy becoming part of that same kind of long-term, close-knit working environment.

We already have the industrial sewing machines, cutting table, pressing equipment and established patterns and production methods in place. You won’t be starting from scratch—we have a proven system that simply needs the right person to carry it forward.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 24.0 per week

Perks:

- Flexible schedule

Work Location: In person
