S. Kritzer Professional

Canada

Position Type: Part-time, independent contractor

Location: Alberta (Remote / Calgary)

Contract Period: January–April 2027, with potential ongoing opportunities

Hourly Rate: $65–$75 CAD, based on experience, plus GST if applicable

Position Overview

S. Kritzer Professional Corporation is an established Calgary-based accounting firm specializing in Canadian taxation, compilation engagements, and cross-border Canada–U.S. personal tax services.

We are looking for an experienced Canadian CPA to provide senior-level technical review support during the upcoming 2027 tax season.

This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned public-practice professional seeking flexible, part-time contract work without the responsibilities of managing a full client portfolio.

The successful candidate will focus primarily on reviewing Canadian corporate year-end engagements and personal income tax returns, ensuring files are technically sound, complete, and ready for final partner approval.

You'll collaborate closely with the firm's principal and accounting technician, providing technical guidance, identifying potential issues, and helping maintain consistent quality across our engagements.

Our busiest period is January through April, particularly during personal tax season. For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities for additional assignments throughout the year.

Primary Responsibilities

Corporate Accounting & Tax Review

- Perform detailed technical reviews of corporate year-end files, including financial statements, working papers, and T2 corporate income tax returns.
- Review compilation engagements for compliance with CSRS 4200 and applicable professional standards.
- Evaluate corporate tax calculations, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and accounting adjustments.
- Identify potential tax or accounting concerns and recommend practical resolutions.

Personal Income Tax Review

- Review Canadian T1 personal income tax returns prepared by our team.
- Assess the accuracy of income reporting, deductions, credits, and supporting tax calculations.
- Review returns involving employment income, investment portfolios, rental properties, and self-employment activities.
- Identify missing information, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve filing accuracy.

Quality Control & Technical Support

- Prepare concise,

constructive review notes for the file preparer.
- Collaborate with the accounting technician to address questions and confirm that required adjustments have been completed.
- Provide technical direction and practical feedback to improve file preparation and review efficiency.
- Escalate significant or unusual matters to the firm's principal.
- Ensure completed files are properly documented and ready for final approval.
- Assist with client-related technical questions or information requests where appropriate.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced Canadian CPA with a strong background in public practice and a proven ability to independently review accounting and tax engagements.

Required Qualifications

- Canadian CPA designation and active membership in good standing with CPA Alberta.
- Recent experience in Canadian public practice, with a strong focus on corporate accounting and taxation.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing T2 corporate income tax returns, compilation engagement files, and Canadian T1 personal tax returns.
- Working knowledge of CSRS 4200 and Canadian accounting and income tax requirements.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify technical issues efficiently.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
- Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and work collaboratively with other accounting professionals.

Preferred Experience

- Proficiency with TaxCycle and CaseWare.
- Previous experience in a senior accountant, manager, or technical reviewer position within a Canadian public accounting firm.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or reviewing work prepared by junior accounting staff.

Contract Schedule & Flexibility

This is a part-time contract position with workload requirements that fluctuate throughout the tax season.

Anticipated Weekly Commitment

- January–February 2027: Approximately 10–15 hours per week.

- March–April 2027: Approximately 15–25 hours per week.
- May–December 2027: Additional assignments may be available on an occasional basis.

The schedule offers flexibility, with assignments and turnaround expectations coordinated in advance.

The successful candidate must be able to maintain reliable availability during the January–April period, particularly throughout the March and April personal tax filing season.

Actual hours will depend on engagement volume and file readiness. The role requires regular communication with the firm's accounting technician and principal to ensure timely completion of assigned reviews.

Applicants must reside in Alberta. Work from home arrangements within Alberta, as well as opportunities to work from our Calgary office, can be discussed during the interview process.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

- Adaptable contract arrangement: Enjoy part-time hours without committing to a traditional full-time public-practice position.
- Review-focused responsibilities: Concentrate on technical accounting and tax review rather than managing an extensive client portfolio.
- Direct collaboration: Work closely with the firm's principal and a small, established accounting team.
- Competitive compensation: Earn $65–$75 per hour, commensurate with your experience.
- Potential ongoing work: Opportunities for additional contract assignments outside the primary tax season.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates are invited to submit their résumé and a brief introduction to [email protected].

Please include the following information in your application:

- A summary of your Canadian public-practice experience, particularly in corporate year-end, compilation, and personal tax review.
- Your current location within Alberta.
- Your anticipated weekly availability from January through April 2027.
- Confirmation that the advertised hourly compensation is consistent with your expectations.
- Whether you would be interested in occasional contract assignments outside the primary tax season.

We appreciate the interest of all applicants. Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.

Pay: $61.00-$74.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10.0 per week

Work Location: Remote
