Civaro Development is a construction management company in Ottawa working on residential projects. Our engineering work is reviewed and sealed by a licensed P.Eng under our Certificate of Authorization.
About the job:
We're looking for an experienced survey technician to take monitoring readings on one of our active construction sites in Ottawa. The work tracks settlement and movement of an existing building. Monitoring targets are already installed on the building.
- About 2–3 site visits per month, around 10 visits in total over the next 4–5 months
- We provide the total station (Leica FlexLine TS02) and deliver it to the site
- Paid per visit
- Flexible timing, not on-call: when a visit is needed, you'll have a window of about 3–4 days to choose a day that works for you
- More projects like this may come up in the future, so we'd like to build a long-term working relationship
First visit (setup):
- Walk the area with us and propose locations for the reference points (benchmarks)
- Bring your own reference targets (reflective targets or mini prisms) and install at least 3 secure reference points on structures outside the zone of influence, well spread out and visible from the instrument setup
- Take baseline readings of the reference points and all existing monitoring targets
- Please include the cost of the reference targets and installation materials in your quote
- We will help arrange permission from property owners where needed
Regular visits:
- Set up our total station and orient it using the reference points
- Take readings on all monitoring targets
- Save all readings in the instrument's internal memory, in a new job named with the visit date, and confirm with us before leaving that all points are recorded. Please do not delete any existing jobs or data
- No data download, processing or reporting is needed; our office team will handle the data
- Keep a short field note for each visit (date, time, weather, any obstructed or damaged points)
- Let us know right away if you notice any unusual movement or if a reference point is damaged or blocked
What we're looking for:
- Past experience with construction or building monitoring (not only layout)
- Comfortable using a total station and setting up reference points
- Experience with Leica FlexLine total stations (TS02/TS06/TS09) is an asset
- Reliable and on time
- Comfortable working safely on an active construction site
- Own vehicle
- C.Tech / C.E.T. or a survey diploma is an asset
How to apply:
Please send your resume and a short note about your monitoring experience, the total station brands you've used, your rate per regular visit, and your price for the first setup visit (including reference targets).
