Job End Date November 30, 2026 This position works 0.875 FTE (7 hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday) from mid-May through November. Please note that the posted salary range is not prorated to reflect this reduced FTE. When needed operationally, a limited amount of additional paid hours may be worked upon approval. At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career. Job Summary The Sales Assistant plays an important hands-on and public-facing role at the UBC Farm, assisting with produce washing, packing, inventory, market sales, and direct sales to local restaurants and cafeterias. Through these activities, the Assistant helps create a welcoming, informative, and efficient sales workplace for customers and community members. The role offers hands‑on experience in sustainable food sales, customer service, product handling, logistics, and basic data and inventory management within a dynamic farm setting. Organizational Status Reports to the Lead Sales Coordinator. Also receives supervision at markets from the Market Sales Coordinator. Works closely, in a collaborative setting,

with other farm staff. Supports the stewardship of the UBC Farm as a model agroecological farm that provides realistic research and learning opportunities while financially supporting programming. Work Performed Coordinate and complete wholesale produce deliveries, including driving a farm vehicle to and from delivery locations (typically 2-3 days per week). Assist in preparing produce for sale, including washing, grading, packaging, and quality control. Assist with cleaning, organizing, and documenting in accordance with the UBC Farm Food Safety Plan. Oversee the work of student staff during market setup, cooler organization, and product handling. Enter sales data, process invoices, and maintain accurate records for internal reporting as needed. Help coordinate produce donations and maintain relationships with community partners. Assist with the sale of produce at on-site public markets. Perform other operational duties as required. Consequence of Error/Judgement The Sales Assistant represents the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS) and the Faculty of Land and Food Systems in customer‑facing interactions at the UBC Farm. The Assistant’s communication, demeanor, and accuracy when engaging with customers, volunteers, and site visitors directly affect the public’s experience and reflect on the professionalism and values of the CSFS. Maintaining courteous conduct, safety awareness,

and adherence to UBC policies is therefore essential. The Sales Assistant must exercise sound judgment when handling produce, operating point‑of‑sale systems, setting up market displays, and supporting wholesale orders. Errors in cash handling, data entry, or inventory tracking can lead to financial discrepancies, impact market reporting, and disrupt operational planning. Because farm sales support the CSFS’s cost‑recovery model, inaccuracies in pricing, counting, or record‑keeping may affect revenue and downstream planning decisions. Safety responsibilities, while limited, still require attentiveness. The Sales Assistant must follow all safety protocols when using equipment and should promptly escalate any issues beyond their scope to the Lead Sales Coordinator. The Sales Assistant must also abide by food safety protocols and contribute positively towards a culture of health and safety. Supervision Received The Sales Assistant reports to and works under the supervision of the Lead Sales Coordinator. The Sales Assistant is expected to perform routine tasks of limited complexity independently according to established procedures and guidelines and to exercise a moderate degree of autonomy. Refers most problems to their supervisor. Receives training and close guidance when undertaking new activities. Supervision Given The Sales Assistant may assist in orienting and overseeing the work volunteers or student workers during market setup and sales operations. This includes demonstrating tasks, ensuring work is completed accurately, and identifying any issues that require escalation to the Lead Sales Coordinator and / or Market Sales Coordinator. Working Conditions Work takes place both indoors and out
