Little Explorers is a small private dayhome in Cole Harbour with six children, ages 18 months to four years. We’re looking for someone to join us most afternoons — someone reliable, calm, and genuinely interested in working with young children long term.

This is not a centre or facility. It’s a home, and the pace reflects that.

Our Philosophy

Our program draws from Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and forest school thinking. In practice that means open-ended play, time outdoors in all weather, materials that invite exploration, and an workplace where children are trusted to figure things out. We don’t rush the day. We let kids get muddy.

Because our group is small, we slow down, follow the children’s lead, and give each child real attention. This isn’t supervision — it’s actual care.

What You’ll Do

∙ Read with children and help guide play and activities

∙ Spend time outside daily, in most weather conditions

∙ Prepare simple snacks and help with light meal prep

∙ Keep the environment clean, organized, and ready for children

∙ Work independently with the children under the guidance of the dayhome operator in a calm, small-group setting

In a group of six, you actually know the children you’re working with. You see the small wins — the first time a toddler pours their own water,



or finally climbs something they’ve been building up to. That kind of work is quiet, but it’s real.

Every day looks different depending on the children, the weather, and what they’re drawn to.

We’re actively growing our programs including our forest school component, and we see this role growing with us. The right person won’t be doing the same job in two years that they’re doing on day one.

Requirements : ∙ Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

∙ Reliable transportation

∙ First aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before starting

∙ Experience with babies and toddlers — professional or personal — is a strong asset

Hours and Pay

∙ Monday to Friday, 1:00pm - 4:30pm with some flexibility

∙ $17-$22/hour depending on experience

∙ Part-time with room to grow
