Support microbiology testing at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria through specimen collection, preparation, and laboratory analysis. Regular full time shifts run across afternoon and evening hours.

Reporting to the Unit Coordinator or designated supervisor, the Technical Assistant collects blood and other specimens for analysis, distribution, and storage. The position prepares media, performs specimen plating, and completes dipstick urine analysis and glucose testing. Patient and staff safety remains a shared responsibility within Island Health.

Key Responsibilities:

- Take blood from patients following established collection procedures
- Collect and prepare specimens for analysis, distribution, and storage




- Prepare microbiology media and perform specimen plating
- Perform dipstick urine analysis and glucose testing
- Operate related laboratory equipment as required

Requirements:

- Grade 12 education
- Recognized Lab Assistant training program completion
- One year recent related experience or equivalent preparation
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities
- Physical ability to carry out position duties
