Position Location: Thunder Bay ON

Position Overview:
Our goal in Clinical and Children's Services is to provide a single point of access to timely children’s mental health services, focusing on positive outcomes for our clients. We provide Indigenous strength-based healing and support, and teach healthy coping skills for children, and youth experiencing social, emotional, developmental, or behavioral difficulties. Grounded in a relationship-based framework of care, Dilico recognizes relationships as the foundation of healing and wellness.
Our land-based recreation therapists assist with program creation and delivery for the youth participating in the Ojichaagwan Ani-Mino-Aya (Anti-Human Trafficking, ages 12-17); Oshkiniig Mashkaziiwin (Youth Live-in Healing, ages 8-17); and our (School-based Good Path, grades 18) programs. All programs are voluntary day and/or live-in healing programs reflective of traditional Indigenous Healing Lodges. Incorporating land-based recreational therapy bridges the gap between structured clinical interventions and real-world functional skills.
Using this combination of skills addresses the wholistic needs of high-acuity youth by shifting from passive treatment to active, experiential engagement, with the goal to help children and youth heal from trauma,
improve mental wellness, strengthen cultural identity, and build life skills while providing families with support, education, and pathways to healthier relationships and long-term stability.
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Land-based Recreational Therapist will provide services and support for all children's services where appropriate. The primary functions of this position are to provide assessment, develop healing plans/goals, and contribute to a multidisciplinary team approach. The focus will be on creating awareness and offering education about recreation and enhanced land-based opportunities to individuals as a prevention strategy and to enhance positive coping skills. To accomplish this, the Recreational Therapist must be knowledgeable of best practices and able to deliver services in a culturally safe, traumainformed, and wholistic manner.
You must be willing to travel across the Robinson Superior Treaty area (District of Thunder Bay) to promote the program and ensure services reach children, youth, and families, in the 13 First Nations we serve.
If you are passionate about helping children and youth become more active and engaged in land-based activities and have a keen interest in promoting healthy living and lifestyles, this position is for you
