Teacher - Native Studies and Cultural Courses

Fort McMurray Public School Division is seeking a full-time teacher for Native Studies and cultural courses. The probationary appointment is listed as August 25, 2026 to June 29, 2027. The school location is to be determined; the posting lists the Division Office.

Responsibilities

- Teach locally developed courses, including beading and tipi education.
- Support Indigenous students as they navigate home and school cultures, and build trusting relationships with students and families.
- Act as a communication link between parents and the school and connect students and families with Indigenous organizations and community services.
- Provide culturally relevant information, research, career development,



and presentation support to school staff.
- Plan cultural events and activities and share practices that support student success.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Education and experience in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and language in the region; being a community member from the region is preferred.
- Cree or Dene language ability is an asset.
- Ability to build relationships with junior high and high school students, work with staff and parents, and support students' mental health needs.
- Organizational, classroom management, differentiated instruction, technology, and supervision skills.
