Wolfville

Grand Pré / Wolfville, Nova Scotia (hybrid)

The Landscape of Grand Pré was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012. It is renowned both for its distinctive dykeland agriculture and for its enduring significance as a place of remembrance for Acadians around the world.

Set on the shores of the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley, Grand Pré lies within Sipekne'katik, one of the districts of Mi'kma'ki, the unceded homeland of the Mi'kmaq people. The site stands as a living symbol of Acadian identity, commemorating those dispersed by the Deportation (le Grand Dérangement), which began in 1755.

Landscape of Grand Pré Incorporated (LGPI) is the not-for-profit organization responsible for protecting and preserving the World Heritage Site, and for deepening public awareness and appreciation of its history.

On behalf of LGPI, we are seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter and build on the robust foundations already in place.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be the key link between governance and operations. You will coordinate the stewardship of the World Heritage Site, working with the rights holders, member organizations, governments and partners who share responsibility for the landscape. You will lead LGPI's projects, oversee its finances and grants, and support the Board and its committees with clear advice and reporting.

Just as importantly, you will be LGPI's public face. You will strengthen the site's identity, lead communications, and build the partnerships that keep the Landscape of Grand Pré visible and valued across the region and beyond.

What qualities are needed as Executive Director?

Fluency in English and French is essential. You write, speak and present comfortably in both official languages,

from board briefings to public remarks. Language proficiency will be assessed during the interview process.

You have the demonstrated ability to build trust across diverse communities and among partners with different interests and perspectives, and to bring them to common ground. You bring senior leadership experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector, and you understand what it means to deliver a mission within a defined budget. You have strong financial acumen and can manage budgets, grants and procurement, read financial and investment statements, and explain them clearly to a volunteer board.

You are a clear, concise communicator in writing and in person. You know how to turn complex issues into practical options and sound recommendations.

You are self-directed and action-oriented, comfortable working independently while respecting the distinct roles of an Executive Director and a Board. You keep the Board fully informed of issues that could affect the organization, and you treat governance as a partnership rather than a formality.

Lastly, you combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to getting things done, and you have a track record of managing projects from plan to delivery, often with multiple partners.

Knowledge of cultural heritage, cultural resource management, or archaeology is an asset, as is a genuine curiosity about the site, its stories,

and the communities that care for them.

You will work largely independently, supported by a contracted administrative and digital services provider.

The position is offered as a two-year renewable contract. Work combines remote work with time on site in Grand Pré and Wolfville.

A full job description can be found here.

Applications in English or French are welcome. Screening interviews are normally conducted in English; candidates who would prefer French may indicate this in their application.

We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including Indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, and persons of a minority sexual orientation or gender identity.
