Location: Lower Sackville, NS

Type: Full Time

Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour

Shifts: Overnights – 1900 to 0700 – Continental

Allied Universal is seeking a dedicated and reliable Security Guard – Shelter to join our team. Prior experience working in a shelter is an asset. This role is crucial to ensuring the safety and well‑being of our residents, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong presence, the ability to handle stressful situations, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure environment.

Responsibilities

Monitor facility access: control entry to the shelter, verify identification, and maintain logs.

Conflict resolution: address and de‑escalate disputes between residents, guests, or staff, while maintaining order.

Emergency response: respond promptly to medical, fire, security, or other emergencies and assist with evacuations if needed.

Safety & security patrols: conduct regular patrols of the building and surrounding areas to prevent theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity. Secure doors and windows after hours.





Incident reporting: document incidents, violations, or disturbances; complete incident reports in a clear and timely manner; communicate effectively with supervisors.

Maintain presence: provide a visible and authoritative presence within the shelter to deter negative behaviors.

Collaboration with shelter staff: work closely with shelter management and staff to implement security protocols and provide support for residents in need of additional assistance.

Requirements

1–2 years of experience in security, preferably at a shelter location.

Valid Provincial Security License.

At least 18 years old.

High school diploma or equivalent (or GED).

Must be eligible to work in Canada up to 40 hours a week.

First Aid and CPR certification required.
