NORCAT looks for people who share its values of results and excellence, trust and integrity, teamwork and collaboration, entrepreneurial spirit and community engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise all work underground on each shift: training areas, mine services, maintenance and technology demonstrations.
- Carry out the workplace examinations the regulation requires and keep the shift records, including the end-of-shift record of any risk not yet mitigated.
- Ensure mobile equipment is being inspected and tested before use, defects are reported, and unsafe equipment is taken out of service.
- Apply health and safety management programs.
- Keep the fire and emergency procedures current, posted and understood.
- Report and investigate incidents with the Director, NORCAT Underground Centre, and see corrective actions through.
- Work with the trainers so that practical training runs safely.
- Ensure NORCAT Underground Centre staff have the required training before being assigned work.
- Keep procedures, programs and records current, work with the Health and Safety Representative, and support Ministry inspections.
- Complete NORCAT’s Train the Trainer program and be approved by the signing authority to deliver the common core modules you hold, and act as back-up trainer when a trainer is absent.
Qualifications:
- At least ten years of underground hard rock mining experience, including at least five years supervising underground crews.
- Experience with underground mobile equipment, including LHDs, and with pre-use inspections and defect reporting.
- Common Core for Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner (Program #P770010).
- Common Core for First Line Underground Mine Supervisor, Underground Hard Rock Mining (Program #P770121).
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation 854, and of a supervisor's duties under them.
- Clear written and spoken communication, and accurate record keeping.
Assets:
- Standard First Aid with CPR.
- Train-the-Trainer certificate, or experience training underground workers.
NORCAT thanks all those who apply; however, only those deemed most suitable for this position will be contacted.
NORCAT welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
