ROLE SUMMARY

Support Engineering and Production through mechanical design, CAD modelling, manufacturing documentation, and process improvement. Help translate product designs into accurate, repeatable manufacturing processes by maintaining drawings, bills of materials, assembly instructions, and ERP manufacturing data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mechanical Design and CAD

- Prepare and maintain 3D models of parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS.
- Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) from SOLIDWORKS assemblies.
- Create exploded views to support assembly instructions, service documentation, and parts identification.
- Prepare detailed 2D drawings using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes, and manufacturing notes.
- Create photorealistic product renders using SOLIDWORKS Visualize.
- Support the design and improvement of enclosures, mounting hardware, brackets, and other mechanical components.
- Review designs for fit, assembly access, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Assist with prototype builds, fit checks, and verification of mechanical components before production release.

Production and Manufacturing Support

- Provide day-to-day technical support to Production by helping resolve mechanical fit, assembly, tooling, and documentation issues.
- Work with production personnel to identify recurring problems and recommend practical improvements.
- Support the introduction of new products and design changes into manufacturing.
- Assist with the design and implementation of assembly fixtures, jigs, and production aids.
- Help investigate production defects, rework, and nonconformances, and support corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Production to resolve component and assembly issues.

Work Instructions and Standard Work

- Develop and maintain clear assembly instructions, standard work procedures, checklists, and visual aids for different product lines.
- Document assembly sequences, required tools,

inspection points, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with Engineering and Quality.
- Ensure instructions reflect approved designs and actual manufacturing practices.
- Support the training of production personnel on recent or revised assembly procedures.
- Identify opportunities to reduce assembly errors, rework, and variation through improved documentation and process controls.

ERP and Manufacturing Workflow Support

- Assist in creating and maintaining ERP item records, BOMs, manufacturing routings, and related production data.
- Help ensure consistency between engineering drawings, SOLIDWORKS BOMs, ERP records, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support the definition and improvement of manufacturing sequences, work centres, and assembly requirements.
- Assist in identifying and correcting discrepancies affecting material planning, inventory accuracy, and production execution.
- Support workflow improvements that strengthen coordination between Engineering, Procurement, Inventory, and Production.

Engineering Documentation and Change Control

- Maintain organized CAD files, drawings, and manufacturing records using established naming and revision-control practices.
- Prepare documentation for engineering review and production release.
- Support engineering change requests and the implementation of approved changes across drawings, BOMs, ERP records, and work instructions.
- Help assess the impact of design changes on existing inventory, work in progress, tooling, and production processes.
- Work with suppliers to clarify drawing requirements and resolve fabrication questions, with Engineering input as required.

Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, assembly efficiency, material use, and ease of maintenance.
- Gather production feedback and incorporate approved improvements into designs and manufacturing documentation.
- Assist with time studies, workstation organization, and process standardization.
- Carry out assigned work in accordance with company quality, safety, and document-control requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS part modelling, assemblies, and technical drawings.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; experience with SOLIDWORKS Visualize is an asset.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and bills of materials.
- Understanding of mechanical assembly methods, materials, fasteners, and common manufacturing processes.
- Experience with ERP systems, BOM management, manufacturing routings, or production workflows is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Practical troubleshooting skills and a hands-on approach to supporting production.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and follow assigned work through to completion.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of assigned CAD work, manufacturing documentation, and ERP data updates. Design changes, material substitutions, and production process changes must follow the company’s established review and approval procedures.
