Position Summary

The overall mandate of the Cashier is to process the transactions of customers purchasing goods in an efficient and accurate manner as well as to provide optimal service to ensure our customers enjoy their shopping experience. The Cashiers report directly to the Front-End Manager.

Job Structure

This is a full time, hourly wage position. Work schedule includes weekends and holidays as required. Paid vacation accrual at 4%. Health insurance plan is included and life insurance benefits are available after 6 months of fulltime employment.

Responsibilities

Customer Service and Cashiering

- Greet all customers that come to the register in a positive and friendly manner
- Scan products, enter codes and look up items using the POS system accurately and efficiently
- Process cash, debit, credit and gift card transactions with accuracy
- Ensure excellent product knowledge and engage in suggestive selling and upselling
- Communicate store promotions, seasonal offerings, holiday contests, and fundraising initiatives to every customer




- Answer in person and over the phone customer inquiries to the best of your abilities, direct questions and calls as necessary

Front End Maintenance and Cleanliness

- Maintain the cleanliness of the front end and outdoor customer eating area (sanitize surfaces, dust work stations, sweep up any debris on the floor/ground)
- Ensure work stations/registers are well stocked with necessary supplies (bags, receipt rolls, debit rolls, cleaning supplies, tape, pens etc.)
- Monitor the shopping baskets and carts, ensure these items are available and organized for customers to use

Communication

- Assist with the phone lines by picking up phone calls and directing inquiries as necessary using the PA system and walkie talkies
- Inform management of catering order pick ups, Too Good To Go pick ups, deliveries, and maintenance personnel
- Identify and ask for assistance with line management, grocery bagging and baskets when necessary
- Maintain awareness for potential loss prevention and alert management to any suspicious activity

Skills and Experience

- 1 year experience working in retail environment
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Ability to contribute to a team culture in fast paced work environment

Job Types : Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $17.20 per hour

Expected hours: 37 - 44 per week
