Position: Assistant Educator

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

About the Position

Merrickville Day Nursery School is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Afternoon Assistant Educator to join our team! This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, supporting play-based learning, and helping create a secure, welcoming, and positive environment for children and families.

The ideal candidate is available five afternoons per week; however, we are willing to be flexible for the right applicant.

Responsibilities

- Support educators in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children.
- Assist with daily routines, transitions, and indoor and outdoor play.
- Encourage positive social interactions and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Support children’s health, safety, and well-being throughout the afternoon.
- Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, and end-of-day duties.
- Work collaboratively with educators and other team members.
- Follow centre policies, procedures, and Ministry of Education requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

- A genuine interest in working with young children.
- Reliable, punctual,



and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to support children’s individual needs and encourage positive behaviour.
- Previous experience in a licensed child care setting is an asset.
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) qualifications are an asset but not required.
- Must meet applicable child care employment requirements, including a valid Vulnerable Sector Check and required health and safety training.

Availability: Five afternoons per week is preferred, but flexible scheduling may be considered.
