About SMOCK Art Space

SMOCK Art Space is Port Coquitlam’s process-first children’s art studio — a dedicated creative space for children ages 2–12 where the making always matters more than the finished product. No craft kits. No templates. Real materials, real technique, real art. We opened in July 2026 and we’re growing.

About the Role

We’re hiring a permanent part-time Studio Maker and key-holder to lead art sessions, support Open Lab drop-ins, and help run birthday parties and seasonal workshops. You’ll work in a beautiful, purpose-built studio — not a school gym or a travelling kit program. This is a key-holder position. We need someone reliable and mature enough to open and close the studio independently.

What You’ll Do

- Open and close the studio independently as a key-holder
- Lead enrolled art classes for children ages 2–12 using prepared session plans
- Run Open Lab drop-in sessions and welcome walk-in families
- Set up and break down materials, manage studio cleanliness and inventory
- Welcome families warmly at check-in and check-out
- Support safe, joyful, and inclusive sessions for every child
- Manage group behaviour and transitions calmly and professionally
- Communicate clearly with families, children, and the studio director

Schedule

- Part-time, approximately 8–15 hours/week
- Afternoons, Evenings and Weekends
- Flexible scheduling with consistent recurring shifts
- Additional hours available for Pro D Days,

holiday workshops, and camps
- Starts immediately

What We’re Looking For

- Some experience with children — babysitting, camps, tutoring, coaching, or volunteering
- Trustworthy and mature enough to hold keys and run the studio solo
- Genuinely into art, making, and creativity
- Reliable and punctual — you show up on time and you communicate
- Comfortable running a session independently once trained
- Warm, patient, and energetic with kids of all ages
- A clear communicator with both children and adults
- Not afraid of mess — this is a hands-on, on-your-feet role

No arts degree or ECE required.

Requirements

- Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
- Standard First Aid / CPR-C (or willingness to obtain before start date)
- Eligible to work in Canada

Nice to Have

- Camp, recreation, or after-school program experience
- Any art, education, or creative background
- Experience with toddlers or preschool-age children

Why SMOCK

- Permanent part time role with room to grow as the studio grows
- Beautiful dedicated studio space — not a traveling program
- Supportive, creative team environment
- Meaningful work with children in your own community
- Flexible scheduling with consistent recurring shifts

Pay: $20.00-$28.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 – 15.0 per week

Benefits

- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule

Work Location: In person
