Location: Fully Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position: Remote Digital Dental Laboratory Technician
ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking an experienced Digital Dental Technician for a fully remote position focused on digital dental design, CAD/CAM preparation, 3D-printing preparation and zirconia milling preparation.
This is not an entry-level position.
The successful candidate must be capable of independently receiving digital dental cases, evaluating scan quality, designing restorations and removable prostheses in exocad, preparing files for 3D printing and zirconia milling, and transmitting production-ready files to our on-site laboratory team.
Because this is a fully remote position, the technician will not physically operate laboratory equipment. However, the technician must understand the complete fabrication workflow well enough to produce accurate, machine-ready files for our Formlabs Form 4B printers, Perfit Ovis zirconia mill and other zirconia milling systems.
Strong practical experience with exocad DentalCAD is mandatory.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES The Remote Digital Dental Technician will be responsible for:
- Receiving and reviewing intraoral scans, laboratory scans, photographs and digital prescriptions
- Evaluating digital files for completeness and accuracy before beginning design
- Communicating with dentists and laboratory staff regarding incomplete scans, unclear margins, occlusal issues or missing information
- Designing crowns, bridges, complete dentures and removable partial dentures in exocad
- Preparing production-ready STL and other applicable digital files
- Preparing and nesting cases for 3D printing
- Preparing and nesting zirconia restorations for milling
- Optimizing case orientation, support placement and material utilization
- Transmitting machine-ready production files to the on-site laboratory
- Reviewing completed cases digitally where appropriate
- Assisting the on-site laboratory team with troubleshooting digital production issues
- Maintaining accurate case records and digital workflow documentation
REQUIRED EXOCAD SKILLS Applicants must be highly proficient in exocad DentalCAD and able to independently design:
- Single-unit crowns
- Multi-unit crowns
- Bridges
- Full-contour zirconia restorations
- Complete dentures
- Digital denture setups
- Denture bases
- Denture teeth
- Denture try-ins
- Removable partial dentures
- Digital partial denture frameworks and designs
- Diagnostic and working models
Candidates must demonstrate strong understanding of:
- Dental anatomy
- Occlusion
- Interproximal contacts
- Occlusal contacts
- Emergence profiles
- Crown margins
- Pontic design
- Path of insertion
- Denture tooth arrangement
- Vertical dimension
- Removable prosthodontic design principles
- Clinically acceptable restoration contours
3D PRINTING PREPARATION – FORMLABS FORM 4B Candidates must understand the Formlabs digital dental printing workflow and be capable of remotely preparing cases for production on Formlabs Form 4B printers.
Responsibilities include
- Importing and preparing STL files for printing
- Using Formlabs PreForm or comparable print-preparation software
- Correctly orienting dental components
- Nesting multiple cases efficiently on the build platform
- Generating and modifying supports
- Optimizing support placement to reduce post-processing and preserve critical surfaces
- Selecting appropriate print parameters based on restoration type and material
- Preparing complete dentures, denture bases, denture teeth, try-ins, models and other dental appliances for printing
- Producing print-ready files for transmission to the on-site laboratory
- Troubleshooting design or nesting problems that may contribute to print failure
The remote technician should understand the downstream washing, curing and finishing process so that designs and supports are prepared appropriately for physical production. ZIRCONIA MILLING AND CAM PREPARATION
Candidates must have strong experience with zirconia milling workflows and CAM software.
Experience preparing cases for the Perfit Ovis zirconia milling system is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include
- Importing completed exocad designs into CAM software
- Nesting crowns and bridges in zirconia discs or blocks
- Correctly positioning restorations within the milling material
- Selecting appropriate milling strategies
- Managing sprue position and size
- Avoiding collisions and inappropriate restoration placement
- Optimizing zirconia disc utilization
- Preparing machine-ready milling files
- Preparing cases specifically for Perfit Ovis zirconia milling equipment
- Preparing cases for other zirconia milling platforms when required
- Understanding milling limitations associated with bur diameter, restoration thickness and internal geometry
- Understanding pre-sintered zirconia workflows
- Accounting for sintering requirements and material characteristics
- Troubleshooting CAM and nesting problems in collaboration with the on-site laboratory team
REMOTE DIGITAL WORKFLOW The technician will manage cases through the following digital workflow:
