The Battery Shop
Guelph
We are a family-owned industrial battery specialist that's been serving local businesses since 1979. We work with everything from standard automotive batteries to massive industrial motive power batteries (2,000–4,000 lbs) used in lift trucks and skyjacks. We pride ourselves on honest, high-quality work, a laid-back and supportive shop environment, and taking great care of our customers and team.
We're looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Service Technician who takes pride in doing things right, enjoys working with their hands, and is comfortable talking to customers.
What You'll Do
In-Shop & On the Road: Perform routine preventative maintenance (PM), service, and repairs on industrial batteries and chargers both in our shop and at client warehouse facilities. Hands-On Maintenance: Clean and wipe down batteries, wire-brush cable contacts, replace cables, change battery cells, and recondition used power units. Testing & Diagnostics: Take voltage and acid readings using a hydrometer to troubleshoot performance issues.
Customer Interaction: Talk to shop customers, answer phones, look up parts, and explain findings directly to facility managers on-site. Recommend practical solutions and assist with quotes when extra service work is needed.
Light Commercial Driving: Operate a 1-ton pickup truck to make local deliveries and pick up heavy batteries and chargers.
What We're Looking For
Mechanical Aptitude / Trade Background: Experience in maintenance, heavy equipment, millwright work, or a general mechanical trade.
Farm Experience Welcome:
Raised on a farm or have farmhand experience? You're likely a great fit—we value practical, jack-of-all-trades problem solvers who aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard. Great Communication & Work Ethic: Outgoing, honest, and reliable. You show up on time, care about your work, and enjoy building positive relationships with customers and teammates.
Driving Requirement: Valid G Class Driver's License with experience driving heavy pickups (e.g., Ford F-350) for loading, hauling, and strapping down heavy loads safely.
Physical Capability: Ability to handle physical shop work, heavy lifting, and manual tasks in shop and warehouse environments.
Note: No prior battery experience required—in fact, we prefer to train you from scratch the right way!
What We Offer
Great Pay: Starting at $28.00–$32.00/hr, with a clear path to earn significantly more as you learn the trade. Stable, Long-Term Career: We're looking for someone to build a long-term future with our business, not just fill a short-term slot.
Supportive Family Culture: Direct support from owners and experienced techs—no corporate fluff, just valuable work and fair treatment. Hands-On Training: Full training on battery technology, industrial chargers, and safety protocols. Ready to apply? If you have a solid work ethic, basic trade skills, and are looking for a place where your hard work is actually recognized and rewarded, apply today! nCompany Description Family owned Battery Sales & service company since 1979 Company Description Family owned Battery Sales & service company since 1979
