About us

Grand Design Build has been designing and building in Toronto since 2010. Custom homes, additions, high-end renovations, laneway and garden suites. More than 250 completed projects, HCRA licensed and fully insured, with a fixed-price contract and a 7-year structural guarantee behind every job. Our design centre is at 1558 Avenue Road in North York.

We need someone who can drive between our active sites, keep an eye on all of them, and fix the small stuff themselves instead of waiting three days for a trade to come back.

What you’ll be doing

Hands on tools, most days

- Small repairs and touch-ups: drywall patching, caulking, paint touch-up, trim and baseboard, door and hardware adjustments, hanging and mounting, minor carpentry
- Fixing what a trade left behind rather than booking them back for a twenty-minute job
- Small installs and odd jobs that come up mid-build
- Picking up and dropping off materials between the suppliers, the shop and the sites

Eyes on the sites

- Walking each active site and finding the deficiencies before the client does. Photograph them, write them down, fix the ones in your wheelhouse, flag the ones that need a real trade
- Posting a short daily log in our management system for every site you visit. What you saw, who was working, what got done, what’s holding things up, and photos.



It takes a few minutes on a phone and it is the single most helpful thing you’ll do for the office
- Checking trades actually showed up and actually finished before anyone signs off on paying them
- Keeping sites clean, tidy, secure and locked up. Bins, deliveries, site access for trades

Keeping things moving

- Chasing the trades who are late or who left something half done
- Calling the office early when something is going to slip, not after it already has
- Being a calm, presentable person in front of homeowners. Most of our sites are people’s houses while they’re living nearby

What you need
- At least 2 years in residential construction, renovation or property maintenance. Handyman, carpenter, maintenance technician or site background all work
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence and a clean driving record. You’ll be in a company vehicle every day
- Genuinely handy across trades. You don’t need to be a licensed electrician or plumber, but you should know what’s a five-minute fix and what needs a licensed person, and never guess between the two
- Comfortable using a phone or tablet for daily logs, photos and to-do lists. We run everything through a management system and you’ll be in it every day. If you’ve used Buildertrend, Procore or similar, say so
- Fluency in English for commuincation and daily logs

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
