The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta invites internal applications from current members of the Faculty for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the area of Rehabilitation Science. This competition is restricted to current full time tenure-track members of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. Interested candidates must have a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences or a related field and currently be Assistant or Associate Professors.
Responsibilities
The successful Chairholder will establish an innovative, high-impact research program supporting Faculty priorities in:
- Neuroscience and mental health
- Children’s health and wellness
- Chronic disease prevention and management.
Qualifications
We are seeking an emerging leader with a strong research trajectory who has demonstrated an outstanding record of research accomplishments, an externally funded, vibrant and growing program of research, and acknowledgement by peers as an emerging leader in Rehabilitation Sciences. The successful candidate must be dedicated to mentoring diverse trainees and scholars within their team. Recognizing that career paths vary and systemic barriers can affect output volume, the selection committee will evaluate candidates based on: 1) the quality, originality, and impact of their proposed program of research; 2) the impact and significance of research outputs, evaluated relative to discipline context and career opportunity; and 3) demonstrated leadership capacity, community engagement, and contributions to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion through mentorship of research trainees. The University of Alberta recognizes the legitimate impact that leaves (e.g., parental leave, leave due to illness) can have on a candidate’s record of research achievement and that these leaves will be taken into careful consideration during the assessment process. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (i.e., candidates must have had their first independent academic research-related appointment for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from their first independent research-related appointment (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 Justification Process. Please consult the University of Alberta CRC Coordinator, Glen Thomas (
[email protected] ) for more information.
Full program information, including details on eligibility criteria, can be found on the Canada Research Chairs website: http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx The University of Alberta recognizes the legitimate impact that life circumstances such as disability, leaves (e.g., parental leave, leave due to illness),
and other family and community responsibilities can have on a candidate’s record of research achievement. These life circumstances will be taken into careful consideration during the assessment process.
The successful applicant will be nominated for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Nominations are subject to review by the CRC Secretariat, and appointment as a Canada Research Chair is conditional upon their approval.
