Job Description
Onni Group is hiring a highly skilled, analytical Mid-Level Equity Market Analyst & Portfolio Associate to join our dynamic team. Join one of the largest privately owned real estate companies in North America. This role supports equity market research and the management of a private portfolio of publicly traded equities, combining company and sector analysis, portfolio monitoring, and practical investment support. The successful candidate will turn market information into explicit, well-supported insights, helping the portfolio manager assess opportunities, risks, and overall portfolio performance. This position requires minimum 3 years of proven experience in equity research, investment analysis, or a related field, at an associate level. For over half a century, we’ve been building communities for people to live, work, and play — spanning real estate development and construction, commercial property ownership and management, hospitality, and a growing presence in venture capital and technology. Our expertise reaches across major North American cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Phoenix, Toronto, and Vancouver. To date, we’ve developed, built, and now own or manage well over 50 million square feet of residential, office, retail, and industrial space — including more than 15,000 homes and 11,200 rental apartments — with another 28 million square feet underway across our markets. Employing thousands of people across North America, Onni continues to diversify beyond our real estate roots, including through Grey Owl, our technology company delivering managed IT, AI-driven security, and smart building solutions to commercial properties across North America. In 2009, Onni entered the hospitality space with Level Hotels & Furnished Suites, and our portfolio has since grown to various hotels in Vancouver, Chicago, and Seattle, with plans to add and grow more. We’ve also expanded into dining, with restaurant concepts including Capo & The Spritz and Solette in Vancouver and Chicago, Fora in Chicago’s Fulton Market, and Dialtone, our coffee-by-day, wine-by-night concept. At Onni, you’ll learn from experienced professionals across every part of our business, take on real responsibility early, and have clear room to grow — whether your path is in commercial real estate, hospitality, or the technology and innovation shaping what comes next. Employees also enjoy three days a month of work-from-home flexibility, along with an exciting calendar of employee events throughout the year — including quarterly team-building events, Pemberton trips, summer boating days,
sports day, an annual holiday party, watch parties for major sporting events like FIFA and the Olympics, and other seasonal celebrations throughout the year, plus early office closures before statutory holidays and weekends, along with regular office events like food trucks and local favorites, and the following perks and
benefits:
:
• Competitive pay (base salary & bonus) and a comprehensive benefits package.
• Benefits include company-paid extended health care, dental care, vision care, life insurance, critical illness, and critical life insurance.
• Annual education allowance.
• Generous referral program.
• Fun and collaborative company culture with lots of team-building events.
• Local discounts at restaurants, clothing stores, personal training, and more.
• Free access to a fully equipped gym.
• Friends and Family rates for hospitality brands. What You Will Do:
• Research public companies, industries, and market trends.
• Review financial statements, valuation measures, earnings results, and company news.
• Conduct detailed financial analysis and valuations of equities: Prepare concise investment summaries and recommendations for review.
• Track market developments and explain their potential effect on the portfolio: monitor and interpret relevant macroeconomic, industry, and company-specific developments that impact investment opportunities.
• Monitor portfolio holdings, performance, concentration, and risk exposure by tracking key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Maintain research records, watchlists, and portfolio reporting.
• Build and maintain financial models, including DCF, comparables, and scenario analysis.
• Support trade and portfolio decisions under the direction of the portfolio manager. What You Will Bring:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in equity research, investment analysis, portfolio support, buy-side/sell-side analysis, or a similar role within investment banking or asset management, with direct exposure to evaluating publicly traded companies.
• Strong familiarity with financial statements, valuation methodologies, and core portfolio management concepts, with the ability to apply them to real investment decisions rather than purely theoretical analysis.
• A demonstrated track record of producing actionable investment insights, backed by rigorous,
well-supported analysis that a portfolio manager can act on with confidence.
• Strong financial analysis and research skills, paired with excellent written and verbal communication — able to translate complex market and company-level analysis into clear, concise recommendations for decision-makers.
• Sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and the discretion required to handle sensitive, private portfolio information appropriately and confidentially.
• Solid understanding of global financial markets, with a strong grasp of equity valuation techniques and the macro and sector-level factors that drive them.
• Proficiency in financial modeling and standard analytical tools, including Excel, Bloomberg, and Capital IQ (or equivalent platforms).
• Ability to work independently and manage your own research and analysis priorities, while also contributing effectively within a small, collaborative team.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree or CFA designation (or progress toward the CFA) is considered a strong asset.
• Willingness and ability to work full-time from ONNI Group’s downtown office — ONNI operates a full-time, in-office culture with a dynamic workplace and solid employee perks, and this role requires on-site presence at our downtown office. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. No phone calls, please. Salary Range: $120,000
