Tax Director, Planning & Reorganizations
· Argento CPA
· Remote in Canada
· $170K–$200K + up to 20% bonus You've designed freezes, holdcos and reorgs for owner-managed businesses. Here you build each owner's lifetime tax plan, implement it as the final technical reviewer, and set the standard for the tax team you teach. Role The Tax Director, Planning & Reorganizations at Argento CPA builds and implements lifetime tax plans for $2–10M+ owner-managed businesses. You'll map every strategy an owner can use, from how they pay themselves to how they structure for a sale, into one plan with savings, deadlines and owners. Then you'll implement it: holdco structures, family trusts, estate freezes and corporate reorganizations, from the plan to the filed elections. You'll be the final technical reviewer on every plan we deliver. You'll also be the technical backbone of our tax team. That means second-reviewing files, teaching the team planning and reorganizations, and building the playbooks that make every plan repeatable. You'll have full support from a controller-led bookkeeping team and our fractional CFOs, so every plan is built on current numbers and maintained year after year. If you love solving complex owner-manager tax problems and building a practice around them, you'll thrive here. Why This Role Matters Most tax firms hand over a plan and walk away. We don't. Our clients get one integrated finance team covering bookkeeping, controllership, CFO and tax strategy, all working from the same numbers. Your plans sit on books our team keeps clean, and our CFOs build the enterprise value your plans protect at a sale. This role is the engine that makes that possible:
• Build lifetime tax plans and implement them so owners keep more of what the business earns.
• Raise the technical bar across our tax team.
• Build the playbooks that let us deliver more plans with the same quality. External Responsibilities
• Build lifetime tax plans: the roadmap of actions, estimated savings, deadlines and owners, reviewed with the client and updated as their numbers change.
• Design and implement plans: owner compensation and TOSI planning, holdco structures, family trusts, estate freezes, section 85 and 86 reorganizations, LCGE multiplication, purification and crystallization.
• Structure for the sale: from 36+ months out, including share versus asset sale modelling, AMT modelling and employee ownership trust exits.
• Lead owner planning meetings: walk owners through the plan, the timeline and the cost.

• Coordinate with advisors: tax lawyers on legal documentation, and financial advisors on corporate-owned insurance.
• Run quarterly planning reviews: for clients on our corporate year-end package.
• Prepare and review complex filings: T2s with reorganizations, T3 trust returns and section 85 elections.
• Handle CRA queries: on the plans you've implemented, including voluntary disclosures. Internal Responsibilities
• Second-review tax files: corporate and personal returns prepared by our tax team.
• Teach the tax team: planning and reorganizations, until they can run a standard holdco or freeze with your review only.
• Build the playbooks: planning templates, implementation checklists and engagement letters, so every plan runs the same way.
• Hand off to bookkeeping and CFO: a maintenance checklist for each plan, setting out what has to stay true in the books.
• Own our Lifetime Tax Playbook: update it each year for new rules, rates and limits. How We'll Measure You (Scorecard)
• 20+ implementations delivered in your first 12 months.
• Implementations completed within 90 days of signing.
• No preventable CRA reassessments or penalties on plans you designed or reviewed.
• Second reviews returned within 1 business day (3 for complex files).
• Every plan's savings documented as tax saved, penalties avoided or deferral.
• Maintenance checklist handed off on every implemented plan.
• Tax team running standard holdco and freeze files with your review only within 12 months. What You Bring
• CPA with 8+ years in Canadian tax, ideally at Senior Manager or Director level in a Big 4 or national firm Private Enterprise or Private Client practice.
• CPA In-Depth Tax Course completed. TEP is a strong asset.
• Plans you've signed off on: estate freezes, holdco and trust structures, and corporate reorganizations.
• Deep technical knowledge: section 84.1, secure income and 55(2), TOSI, QSBC purification, the capital dividend account, AMT, attribution rules, the 21-year rule and voluntary disclosures.

• Plain-language explanations of complex tax for owners and for non-specialists on our team.
• A builder's mindset: you want to grow a practice, not just run files.
• Calm under deadlines and relentless about getting the technical details right. What You'll Get
• Fully Remote – Work from anywhere in Canada with full autonomy over your schedule.
• Extended Health & Dental – Cost-shared plan from your start date.
• RRSP Matching – We match your contributions up to 5% of base salary.
• AI-Forward Firm – We run Karbon, QBO automations, and Claude across the practice. Your time goes to planning and judgment, not admin.
