Freelance Legal Blog Writer Remote | Freelance | Recurring Client Assignments | CAD $75–$100 per Publish-Ready Blog Position Summary Umbrella Legal Marketing is seeking lawyers called to the bar in a Canadian province or territory (active legal practice is not required) to research and write public-facing legal content for Canadian law firms. Successful applicants will be trained in ULM's content methodology, covering legal research and source verification, SEO, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), AI-assisted research and drafting, and prompt best practices. Training accommodates writers new to these tools. We are looking for writers who understand how to use contemporary research and drafting processes intelligently while applying the judgment, scrutiny, and legal reasoning expected of a Canadian lawyer. The role offers lawyers a flexible way to apply legal research and writing skills while developing expertise at the evolving intersection of law, search, and AI-assisted content. Responsibilities
• Cover legal news, recent decisions, and legislative developments as they arise
• Prepare case summaries, how-to guides, listicles, and other established blog formats
• Respond to topic requests from clients
• Explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyer audiences with clarity and precision
• Verify legal propositions, authorities, dates, and quotations before submission
• Apply SEO and GEO principles across traditional search, generative search,



and AI-driven discovery
• Use approved AI tools within ULM's workflow, applying ULM guidance on prompting, verification, refinement, and quality control
• Write within the advertising and marketing requirements of the relevant Law Society
• Adapt voice and tone to each firm and audience
• Incorporate editorial, legal-review, and client feedback to meet ULM's publish-ready standards Qualifications
• Exceptional legal research and writing ability in Canadian English
• Sound judgment in evaluating legal and factual authorities
• Close attention to accuracy, nuance, attribution, and jurisdiction
• Reliability in maintaining recurring client commitments and deadlines Experience in legal practice, publishing, journalism, law firm blogging, and legal marketing is an asset. Freelance Structure This is fully remote freelance work. Writers are matched with clients based on experience, writing ability, and availability. Before accepting a client assignment, writers are advised of the expected publishing schedule and may take on one recurring client or several, depending on capacity.
