About Us
The French Programs and Services Branch of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) supports the advancement of French-language education and French second-language learning in Nova Scotia. Guided by the principles of linguistic equity, inclusion, and cultural vitality, the Branch works to ensure that Acadian and francophone communities have access to high-quality educational programs and services in their language.
In collaboration with governmental, community, provincial, national, and international partners, the Branch develops and implements initiatives, programs, and partnerships that contribute to the promotion of the French language, the development of the francophone education workforce, and the sustainability of French-language education. Its work notably supports the recruitment, integration, and retention of qualified professionals within Nova Scotia’s education system.
The Branch also supports opportunities for English-speaking students across the province to learn French, thereby contributing to bilingualism, intercultural understanding,
and Canada’s linguistic duality. Through its leadership and strategic actions, it helps build an inclusive, equitable, and culturally rich education system that supports the growth and well‑being of Acadian and francophone communities while benefiting all Nova Scotians.
