Analyze reprogrammable mechanical metamaterials at McGill University using finite element modeling and nonlinear mechanics research methods. This part time position is based at Macdonald Eng. Bldg.
As a Research Associate, you will design tunable unit cells and lattice architectures, model nonlinear behavior, and validate performance experimentally. The work involves solid mechanics, structural stability, scientific programming, additive manufacturing, and mechanical testing. You will also contribute to publications, conferences, grants, and interdisciplinary mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design metamaterial unit cells and lattice architectures
- Develop finite element and reduced-order computational models
- Fabricate prototypes using multi-material printing and laser cutting
- Conduct quasi-static and dynamic mechanical experiments
- Analyze data and compare findings with theoretical predictions
Requirements:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related fields
- At least five years of research experience
- Background in nonlinear elasticity, buckling, and solid mechanics
- Proficiency with ABAQUS, COMSOL, ANSYS, Python, or MATLAB
- English written and oral communication skills
Apply mechanical modeling, fabrication, testing, and analysis expertise to advance reprogrammable metamaterials research at McGill University.
