TheHealth&SafetyCoordinatorisresponsibleforsupportingthedevelopment;,implementation,andcontinuousimprovementoftheCity’soccupationalhealthandsafetyprogramsandsystems.Thisroleprovidessupporttoensurecompliancewithapplicablehealthandsafetylegislation,whileadvancingaproactivesafetyculturefocusedonprevention,riskreduction,andemployeewell‑being.Workinginacomplex,multi‑site,project‑driven,andunionizedenvironment,theCoordinatorpartnerswiththePeopleServicesteam,Cityleaders,Employees,multipleJointHealth&SafetyCommittees;,contractors,andexternalstakeholderstodriveeffectivesafetypractices,manageworkplaceincidentsandclaims,anddeliverimpactfultrainingandprogramsacrosstheorganization.

KeyDuties&Responsibilities;





Health&SafetyCompliance;

- Supportthedevelopment,implementation,review,andcontinuousimprovementoftheCity’shealthandsafetyprograms,policies,procedures,standards,andsafeworkpractices.
- ContributetotheevolutionoftheCity’shealthandsafetymanagementsystemandoverallsafetystrategy.
- EnsureorganizationalcompliancewiththeOccupationalHealthandSafetyAct(OHSA),WorkplaceSafetyandInsuranceAct(WSIA),andrelatedlegislation.
- Coordinateandsupporthealthandsafetyprograms,includingworkplaceinspections,hazardassessments,contractorsafety,confinedspaceentry,workplaceviolenceprevention,andfirstaidcompliance.
- ConductcomplianceauditsandgapassessmentstoensureadherencetoOHSA,applicableregulations,standards,andcorporaterequirements.
- Monitorlegislativechanges,emergingtrends,andbestpractices,recommendingprogramenhancementstomaintaincomplianceandsupportcontinuousimprovement.

RiskManagement&IncidentPrevention;(Operational)

- Conductworkplaceinspections,audits,hazardassessments,andjobhazardanalysesacrossmunicipalfacilities,operationalworksites,andactiveproject/constructionsites.
- Leadorsupportincident,injury,andnear‑missinvestigations,includingroot‑causeanalysisandcorrectiveactionimplementation.




- Whereneeded,supportleadershiptoverifycontractorcompliancewithmunicipalsafetyexpectations,project‑specificrequirements,andregulatoryobligations
- Coordinateoccupationalhygieneandexposuremonitoringinitiatives(noise,chemical,biological,ergonomic,indoorairquality).
- Supportemergencypreparednessplanning,drills,andresponseactivities.
- Provideadvicetoleaders,projectmanagers,andemployeesonhazardidentification,riskmitigation,andsafeworkprocedures.

Training,Education&Culture;

- Identifylegislatedtrainingrequirementsandsupportorganization‑widecompliancewithmandatorytrainingprograms.
- Develop,coordinate,anddeliverhealthandsafetytrainingprograms,includingorientations,project‑sitesafetybriefings,andinstructor‑ledsessions.
- Promoteacultureofsafetythroughengagement,communication,andawarenessinitiatives.
- Supportcontinuousimprovementoflearningsystemsandtrainingcompliancetracking.

Committees&StakeholderCollaboration;

- ProvideleadershipandcoordinationsupporttomultipleJointHealth&SafetyCommittees;(JHSCs),includinginspections,meetings,andfollow‑upactions.
- ActasatechnicalresourcetoJHSCsanddepartmentalleadersregardinglegislativerequirementsandhealthandsafetybestpractices.
- Supportdepartmentalleadersinmeetingtheirduediligenceandhealthandsafetyresponsibilities.
- Buildeffectiverelationshipswithemployees,unions,supervisors,contractors,andexternalpartners.
