JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the logistics director, the Ground Transport and Customs Technician is responsible for selecting the best external carriers and doing the inherent follow-ups. Our transportation is mainly cross-border (Canada-US) and inter-Canada. He/she assigns and updates HS codes and prepares customs documentation for a smooth passage through customs. He/she also supports the logistics team in various transport tasks. Please note that this is not a dispatch role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Processing of road transport requests :

- Process road transport requests (bids, orders and transfers).
- Find carriers, book transports and track shipped merchandise.
- Evaluate the cubage of orders to assess the linear footage required for shipping.
- Create and send BOLs to warehouses.
- Track the transport and return of goods for trade shows.

Carrier selection and invoice verification :





- Find and negotiate the best quality-price rates for delivering customer orders (LTL, FTL and Parcel).
- Manage the price list and qualify carriers.
- Verify freight invoices for shipments and resolve billing issues.

Preparation of customs documentation :

- Assign, validate and update HS, CUSMA and HTS codes in the Epicor system.
- Prepare customs documentation to ensure a smooth passage through customs.
- Detect and correct errors in customs declarations.
- Other related tasks to lend a hand to the logistics team.

REQUIREMENTS, QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED

- AEC in Transportation Logistics - any combination of education and relevant experience will be considered;
- At least 3 years of experience in road transport logistics.
- Experience in customs (an asset).
- Efficiency, speed of execution and problem solving.
- Sense of organization, management of priorities and emergencies.
- Proactivity, versatility and initiative.
- Thoroughness, discretion and attention to detail.
- Self-taught and good learning ability.
- Teamwork, communication and collaboration.
- Ability to calculate the cubic volume of trucks.
- Spoken and written languages (advanced level): French and English.
- Computer skills: Excel, Outlook.
