ICAN INDEPENDENCE CENTRE AND NETWORK

ICAN is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing services and resources for individuals living with permanent physical disabilities, post-stroke conditions, and older adults. ICAN provides assistance to live independently and inclusively in the community through individualized support and rehabilitation services.

JOB SUMMARY

The primary focus of the Maintenance Assistant is to provide housekeeping/janitorial services for the buildings owned and operated by ICAN - Independence Centre and Network, and to assist the maintenance person in outdoor maintenance, grounds work and repairs and maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Gardening duties including planting, weeding, mulching, and maintaining flower beds.
- Outdoor maintenance including sweeping walkways, clearing debris, power washing as needed.
- Basic property upkeep including minor repairs, painting touch-ups, and general maintenance tasks.
- Seasonal cleaning of outdoor furniture, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assisting with waste management and recycling.
- Damp-wiping windows, window sills, blinds, furniture.




- Lawn care including mowing, trimming, watering and basic landscaping.
- Observe WHMIS, waste management and Health and Safety rules, regulations and procedures of ICAN.
- Report any mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed.
- Other duties which might be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

- High School Diploma.

Skills

- Solid interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Certifications & Experience

- First Aid (required) and CPR (preferred) certification.
- WHMIS.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Physical demands may include regularly carrying objects up to 50 lbs with frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Spending extended periods of time outdoors.
- Frequent bending & kneeling.
