The Role
We are seeking a Manager, Delivery to lead a software engineering team focused on Python development. The Manager will be responsible for translating broader functional goals into a clear team-level strategy, defining how the team measures success over the next 6-12 months.
The Manager must balance ‘keeping the lights on’ with delivering new features, ensuring the team executes on its roadmap with high quality and predictability.
This role holds formal authority for the operational health, hiring, and performance management of the team. While this is a management role, the incumbent expected to maintain strong technical credibility. You will not write code daily, but you must possess the deep practical understanding of Python and architecture necessary to review designs, challenge technical trade-offs, and ensure your team builds robust, scalable solutions.
What You’ll Do
Team Execution & Delivery
Roadmap Execution: Work within a defined budget and headcount to execute on a roadmap set by leadership. Ensure the team delivers on project commitments over multiple quarters.
Operational Health: Accountable for the team's operational metrics (e.g., uptime, bug counts) and removing obstacles that block daily progress.
Resource Management: Manage tactical resource conflicts within the team to ensure priorities are met.
Technical Oversight
Design Review: Effectively review architectural designs and code (Python/Django/Pyramid), asking insightful questions about technical trade-offs without needing to be the primary coder.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure the team adheres to sound engineering principles and builds solutions that are robust and scalable.
Strategic Alignment
Team Strategy: Impact the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of the team’s work by translating departmental goals into specific team objectives.
Business Value: Articulate the business value of your team's work (e.g., how specific features support Department KPIs) to stakeholders.
People Management & Development
Team Management: Exercise formal authority over hiring, compensation, and personnel decisions for your direct reports.
Performance Management: Conduct formal performance reviews, manage underperformance, and recognize high achievers.
Coaching: Connect with direct reports through regular 1:1s, coaching them on career development and soft skills.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Leadership training or certification.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of DC power plants (-48V), grounding/bonding.
5+ years of software engineering experience, with a deep
practical understanding of Python ecosystems (Django, FastAPI).
1+ years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., Team Lead or
Associate Manager) with exposure to performance management.
Proven experience defining team-level operational processes and workflows.
Proficiency in database design (PostgreSQL) and ORM tools.
Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and integration.
