What will my role be?

Rankin Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced Estimator & Project Coordinator to support the estimating, planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects throughout Ontario. This position will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from reviewing tender documents and preparing detailed estimates through to supporting construction activities, cost control, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.

A key responsibility of this position will be assisting with the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil, infrastructure, bridge,

structural, and municipal construction projects. The successful candidate will review drawings and specifications, complete quantity take-offs, obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, develop pricing, identify project risks and opportunities, and assist with tender submissions. Following award, the individual will work closely with Project Managers and field supervision to support project execution, including procurement, cost tracking, change management, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and coordination with subcontractors and suppliers.

This is not strictly an office‑based estimating position. The successful candidate must be willing to spend time on active construction sites, develop a practical understanding of construction methods and sequencing, and apply that field knowledge to both estimating and project coordination activities. Experience with bridges, structural concrete, transportation infrastructure, MTO projects, municipal infrastructure, or other heavy civil construction projects is strongly preferred.

As an Estimator & Project Coordinator, you will:

- Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and other project personnel to establish realistic construction sequencing, durations, milestones, and resource requirements.
- Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for infrastructure projects.

- Read and interpret drawings, specs, and tender documents.
- Perform quantity take-offs for materials, labour, and equipment.
- Work alongside senior estimators and project managers.
- Assist Project Managers in developing recovery plans and schedule adjustments when projects fall behind planned progress.
- Review project drawings, specifications, contract documents, tender schedules, and contractual scheduling requirements.
- Assist with project planning, cost tracking, forecasting, quantity tracking, and progress reporting.
- Assist with quantity take-offs, measurements, progress quantities, and payment documentation.
- Track project costs, quantities, production rates, progress, and schedule performance.
- Coordinate with owners, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, field personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records, schedules, drawings, reports, and correspondence.
- Support project health and safety requirements and Rankin Construction’s commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Assist with project closeout, deficiency management, as-built documentation, and final project records.
- Perform other project coordination and scheduling duties as required.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who understands that a successful construction schedule is more than dates entered into a computer.

The successful candidate must understand how heavy civil construction work is actually built and be able to work with field supervision to develop schedules that accurately represent construction sequencing, production, constraints, and projec
