The Wilson Group is a fourth-generation, family-owned business with over 100 years of earning the trust of communities across southwest Nova Scotia. What started as a general store has evolved into a dynamic, multi-location retail group operating under national banners including Home Hardware Building Centre, The Brick, and Bell, with a diversified portfolio spanning home improvement, building materials, furniture, appliances, electronics, floral, and property management.

To support this momentum, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the team in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the CFO, this role offers an ambitious accounting professional the opportunity to broaden their business acumen, gain exposure across multiple operating companies, and continue developing toward future leadership opportunities within the organization.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership, the Senior Accountant will contribute beyond traditional accounting responsibilities, helping translate financial information into meaningful insights that support operational and strategic decision-making across the business.

Assist with monthly financial reporting, account reconciliations, and year-end processes
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities
Monitor operational and financial performance and provide actionable insights to support decision-making
Assist with inventory accounting and reporting across multiple business units
Participate in process improvement initiatives to strengthen reporting accuracy, efficiency, and consistency
Support strong internal controls and compliance with accounting policies and procedures

Collaborate with business leaders to explain financial information and provide insight into operational performance
Contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives as the organization continues to grow and evolve

A minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience
Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting and business management systems
Experience within inventory, retail, distribution, multi-location, or similarly complex operating environments would be considered an asset
A CPA designation or active pursuit of the designation would be considered an asset but is not required

This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to be close to the business and continue developing beyond traditional accounting. The Wilson Group offers a competitive compensation package including benefits, RRSP matching, performance incentives, and opportunities for ongoing professional development. If you are looking for an opportunity where you can take ownership, expand your skill set, and grow alongside a well-established organization with strong roots in the community, we would love to connect.
