With the industry booming and our business growing fast, we're looking for individuals who are ready to make an impact and grow with us.About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Topman to join construction crews working on various municipal water, sewer, and underground infrastructure projects.Reporting to the Foreman, the Topman is responsible for helping ensure the safe and efficient flow of work around the excavation. This includes directing equipment operators, checking grades, assisting with shoring and underground installations, and supporting the Foreman with day-to-day site activities.The Topman will also take on a leadership role within the crew, helping guide less experienced workers and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.Key ResponsibilitiesShoot and check grades using a transitRead and interpret construction drawings and plansAssist with the installation of various shoring systemsGuide excavator operators and take grade shots to achieve the required excavation depthAssist the Foreman with daily paperwork and crew/subcontractor organizationDirect traffic as requiredDirect and signal heavy equipment operatorsParticipate in toolbox talks and provide leadership on siteCut and bevel pipe as requiredInstall and repair water and sewer infrastructurePerform manual and physically demanding construction tasksInstruct and guide crew members on job tasksMentor and support less experienced workersOperate industrial equipment and hand toolsProperly rig pipe when lowering materials into trenches or connecting to excavator bucketsLoad and unload tools, materials, and equipmentFollow all company and site safety proceduresPerform other duties as assignedRequirementsPrevious experience working as a Topman or in a similar underground construction roleAbility to lift up to 50 lbs. unaidedClass 5 Driver's LicenceConfined Space Entry/Monitor certificationAbility to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevationsExperience working around heavy equipment and underground utilitiesStrong communication and leadership skillsAbility to work safely and effectively as part of a crewPreferred QualificationsRigging and Hoisting certificationFall ProtectionCSTS 2020WHMIS 2015H2S AliveCrane Signals certificationExperience with municipal water and sewer constructionWorking ConditionsPhysically demanding work requiring standing, kneeling, bending, lifting, and working in various positionsOutdoor work in all weather conditionsWork in dusty, underground, and confined environments, including sewer systemsWork around heavy equipment, excavation sites, and construction materialsCommitment to maintaining a safe and professional work setting
