About the Position

CDCC is looking for a dependable, hardworking and detail-oriented Cleaner & Facilities Support Worker to help keep our child care centre clean, sanitary, organized and ready for children and staff each day.

This is primarily a cleaning and janitorial position.

Regular duties include cleaning classrooms, washrooms and common areas, floor care, garbage removal, laundry, sanitation, restocking supplies and completing routine and scheduled deep-cleaning tasks throughout the centre.

The successful candidate will also be cross-trained to provide kitchen cleaning and sanitation coverage when needed.

This is not a cooking position. Very occasional basic food-preparation assistance may be required, but regular meal preparation and cooking are not part of this role.

What You'll Do

· Clean and sanitize classrooms, washrooms, hallways, common areas and other centre spaces

· Sweep, mop and complete routine floor care

· Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, equipment and shared areas

· Empty garbage and handle waste safely

· Complete laundry and other sanitation tasks

· Restock cleaning, washroom and facility supplies

· Keep cleaning, storage and supply areas organized

· Complete scheduled, seasonal and deep-cleaning tasks

· Follow WHMIS, chemical-handling and workplace safety procedures

· Complete required cleaning records and checklists

· Identify and report maintenance, equipment or facility concerns

· Work with the Food & Facilities Supervisor to help maintain a clean, safe and well-organized centre

Kitchen Cleaning Coverage

The successful candidate will be cross-trained to provide kitchen cleaning and sanitation coverage when required.

· Wash dishes and operate kitchen cleaning equipment

· Clean and sanitize counters, sinks, equipment and food-service areas

· Complete required kitchen cleaning and sanitation routines

· Keep the kitchen clean and organized

· Assist with food storage, receiving and organization





· Very occasionally assist with simple food-preparation tasks

Regular cooking and meal preparation are not part of this position.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

· Has previous janitorial or professional cleaning experience

· Is dependable, punctual and able to work independently

· Takes pride in keeping spaces clean, organized and well maintained

· Notices what needs to be done and follows through

· Can follow detailed cleaning, sanitation and safety procedures

· Works well as part of a team

· Understands the importance of cleanliness and infection prevention in a child care setting

· Can safely perform physical cleaning duties throughout a shift, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching and moving throughout the centre

Experience cleaning in a child care centre, school, health-care setting, commercial facility or other institutional environment is an asset.

Requirements

Applicants must:

· Be 18 years of age or older

· Have previous janitorial experience

· Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check

· Have First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain it after hire

· Have Food Handler Certification or be willing to obtain it after hire

· Complete WHMIS and required workplace health and safety training

First Aid/CPR and Food Handler Certification may be completed after hire. The employee is responsible for the initial cost of these courses. CDCC will reimburse the cost upon successful completion of the probationary period.
