About the Role

Are you a practical problem solver who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in a well-kept property?

Jaffer Properties (under the Jaffer Group of Companies) is looking for a reliable, resourceful Property Maintenance and Building Care Technician to maintain our residential and commercial buildings. This role combines general repairs and preventative maintenance with a significant focus on daily cleaning, property presentation, and safety.

Several of our properties are downtown, where entrances, sidewalks, grounds, and common areas require extra attention. Regular cleaning, litter removal, and responding to unexpected messes are essential parts of this position. We’re looking for someone who notices what needs attention and takes initiative, whether that means repairing a fixture or cleaning an entrance before tenants arrive.

About Jaffer Group – Property Division

Jaffer Group is a diversified Edmonton-based organization with interests across property management, construction, hospitality, data management, and long-term investments.

Our property division manages a growing mix of commercial buildings, residential apartments, and rental properites across Edmonton and surrounding area.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

- Keep properties clean and welcoming: Sweep, mop, clean, and disinfect entrances, lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and other shared spaces as needed.
- Give outdoor areas daily attention: Remove litter and debris from sidewalks, parking areas, building perimeters, and grounds. Monitor waste and recycling areas and keep them tidy.
- Inspect for cleanliness and safety: Conduct daily walkthroughs, identify spills, obstructions, damage, and other hazards, and address or report them promptly.
- Respond to unexpected cleaning needs:

Handle heavily soiled areas and other unplanned messes using appropriate procedures and protective equipment. Report hazardous materials or situations requiring specialized cleanup.
- Support seasonal upkeep: Assist with snow and ice removal, sanding, and other seasonal tasks to keep entrances and walkways accessible and safe.
- Complete general repairs: Carry out painting, drywall patching, caulking, basic carpentry, minor plumbing, door and hardware repairs, and basic electrical maintenance within your qualifications.
- Prevent problems: Complete scheduled preventative maintenance and inspect heating, plumbing, boilers, locks, security systems, and other building equipment.
- Respond and follow through: Address tenant and property management requests, prioritize urgent needs, and communicate progress through to completion.
- Prepare spaces for occupancy: Assist with cleaning, repairs, and touch-ups during tenant turnovers.
- Stay organized: Maintain accurate work records, monitor cleaning and maintenance supplies, and keep tools, mechanical rooms, and work areas tidy and secure.
- Support the property team: Assist with improvements, coordinate with contractors, and respond to on-call or after-hours needs as required.

What We Want You to Bring:

- Experience in building maintenance, caretaking, cleaning, repairs, or a similar hands-on role.
- A willingness to perform regular, hands-on cleaning throughout the workday, alongside maintenance and repair tasks.

- High standards for cleanliness and an understanding of how property upkeep contributes to tenant comfort and safety.
- Practical repair skills and confidence using common hand and power tools.
- The ability to work independently, organize your day, and adjust priorities when urgent cleaning or maintenance needs arise.
- Good judgment about when to handle a task yourself and when to seek specialist support.
- A valid driver’s licence and a reliable personal vehicle suitable for travelling between properties and transporting tools and materials; a truck is preferred.
- Transparent English communication skills for understanding safety instructions, discussing maintenance needs, and documenting work.
- A professional, respectful approach with tenants, visitors, contractors, and coworkers.
- The ability to perform physical duties, including cleaning, lifting and moving materials, bending, kneeling, using ladders, and working outdoors, with accommodation where required.

Above all, you’re dependable, observant, and take pride in leaving every area clean, safe, and ready for use.

What We Offer:

- Benefits and a vehicle allowance
- Consistent, varied work across residential and commercial properties.
- Tools provided as needed.
- A supportive team with hands-on leadership.
- Opportunities to develop your skills across property care, maintenance, and construction projects.

Additional Notes:

- This is an in-person role involving travel between properties. Some on-call and after-hours work is required; the schedule and arrangements will be discussed with the successful candidate.
- This role is ideal for someone who likes variety and isn’t looking to be stuck doing the same task every day.
