Job Summary

The Groundman is responsible for assisting the Drill Operator and Frontend man in completing their assigned tasks. This individual is expected to assist the operator by being their eyes on the ground while the equipment is in use. The Groundman helps the operator in avoiding collisions and ensures appropriate safety precautions are being met. The Groundman also assists with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the job site.

Duties

- Assist the operator in avoiding any potential collisions or accidents. Responsible for being the operator’s eyes in terms of machine swing.
- Ensure to be constantly aware of the machine and neighboring surroundings i.e. trees, overhead lines, stakes, marked underground utilities; ensures that the Operator is made aware of any possible dangers.
- Work in a safe and responsible manner.
- Clean augers and other tools on site; ensure the box on each tool is clean so tool change-outs are quick and easy.
- Responsible for putting all tools away (wrenches, hammers, shackles, shovels, and anything else on site).
- Organize the sea can and ensure it is easy to access (all tools in their proper place etc.).
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards i.e. tripping hazards.
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
- Load, unload, and identify construction materials, machinery, and tools,



and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications, or as directed.
- Ensure that trucks and equipment are safely and securely stored.
- Implement pile quality checks i.e. offset installation, offset measurement, elevation, verticality and other parameters as required for project. All work to be checked and confirmed by senior member of staff i.e. Drill Operator, Frontend Man.
- Perform all work in accordance with current HFDI policies and procedures.
- Responsible for any labor tasks or other duties as required or directed.

Requirements:

- Completion of secondary school.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50lb.
- 1 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to commute everyday within the Greater Vancouver Area.
- CSTS – 09 or SiteReadyBC certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills an asset.

Working Conditions:

- Extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, and carrying.
- Lifting heavy objects on a regular basis.
- Repetitive tasks with few breaks.
- Repetitive tasks involving bending of the back.
- Working outside in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to dust, mud, and other unpleasant irritants.
- Potential hazards in the workplace.
- May involve overtime, early starts, and late finishes.

Pay: $26.00-$34.00 per hour
