$38.00–$65.00/hour + OEM Training Premiums

Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week | 5-Day Work Week

Build Your Career. Fix Trucks Right. Keep Customers Moving.

At Western Star Trucks North, trucks aren't just what we work on - they're what our customers depend on to make a living.

When a truck is down, our job is to diagnose it right, repair it right, and get it back on the road.

We've been doing that since 1987. What started as a family-owned business has grown into three full-service heavy-duty truck dealerships across Northern Alberta.

We're looking for Heavy Equipment Technicians who take pride in their work, want to keep developing their skills, and want to be part of a shop where good technicians are valued.

Why Work With Us?

$38.00–$65.00/hour based on experience and qualifications

Earn more as you train - additional wage premiums for completed OEM certifications

Paid OEM training - Western Star, Detroit Diesel and Cummins

Apprentices welcome - we support the Apprenticeship Program and pay your tuition

40-hour work week with overtime opportunities when available

Full benefits - Health, Dental, Vision, Life & Disability

RRSP/TFSA matching

Boot allowance & Eye Safe Program

Paid time off

Career development opportunities

We invest in our technicians because we want you to become an expert at your trade - and be paid accordingly.

You'll diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain heavy-duty trucks and equipment to dealer-quality standards.

Work can include:

- Detroit Diesel and Cummins engines

- New-truck rig-up and equipment installation

Most work is performed in the shop and yard, with occasional field work as required.

What Makes a Great Technician Here?

We're looking for more than someone who can change parts.

We want technicians who can diagnose problems, think through repairs, communicate what they find, and take ownership of getting the job done properly.

You'll be responsible for:

- Diagnosing truck and equipment problems and determining the correct repair
- Completing repairs efficiently and to manufacturer standards
- Communicating your findings clearly to the Shop Foreman and Service Advisors
- Identifying additional defects or required repairs
- Helping determine warranty eligibility
- Completing accurate repair stories and work-order documentation
- Accurately tracking technician time
- Keeping your OEM training current
- Helping other technicians when needed
- Contributing to better shop efficiency and customer turnaround times
- Maintaining a clean, safe and professional work environment
- Treating customer equipment like it's your own

What You'll Need

- Registered Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice or Journeyperson certification preferred
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Your own basic technician tooling and roller toolbox
- Laptop suitable for required technician work

- Strong mechanical and diagnostic ability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Professional attitude with customers and coworkers
- Willingness to continue learning and completing OEM training
- Flexibility when department demands require it

Class 1 or Class 3 license is an asset and qualifies for an additional wage premium.

This Might Be the Right Shop for You If...

You take pride in fixing things properly.

You don't need someone standing over you to get the job done.

You want to become better at your trade.

You like working with people who help each other instead of working against each other.

And when a customer's truck is down, you give a damn about getting them back on the road.

Compensation
