MLSN Millbrook Office – Covering Pictou, New Glasgow and Antigonish
Courts

Requirements:

University degree preferred

Mi’kmaq language preferred

Knowledge and familiarity with Mi’kmaq culture and communities

Knowledge of Mi’kmaw Legal Support Network and other Indigenous Justice Programs

Ability to work with families and youth in crisis

Must possess positive communication and public speaking skills

Computer skills required

Must pass Criminal Record Screening and Child Abuse Register

Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s license and have access to a vehicle

General Description:

The Mi’kmaq Court Worker Program is to provide information and promote an





understanding of the court process to Mi’kmaw and Indigenous clients. As well, the

Mi’kmaq Court Worker Program helps to bridge gaps and work to eliminate cultural
barriers between the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq and Indigenous people. The Court Worker

will promote and secure linkages, and provide a bridging function, between Indigenous

peoples and the criminal justice system, in order to facilitate the sharing of

information.
