About Nkem's

Nkem's is an Ottawa-based Nigerian food business making bulk catering trays (jollof and fried rice, egusi and efo riro soups, chicken stew, grilled chicken, poundo yam and sides) for churches, community groups and events. We launched in February 2026 and are growing quickly. We're moving production into a licensed commercial kitchen and looking for our first teammate to help on cook days.

Schedule

- Saturday production day (morning to early afternoon)

- Friday evening prep when needed

- 8-10 hours per week; weekend and evening availability required

What you'll do

- Wash, peel, chop and portion vegetables, peppers, tomatoes and proteins

- Help cook and portion rice, soups, stews and grilled chicken to our recipes

- Pack, label and stage trays for pickup and delivery

- Keep stations clean and follow food-safety and sanitation procedures

- Clean the shared kitchen at the end of each shift, on time





What we're looking for

- Reliable and on time, comfortable on your feet for a full production shift

- Available most Saturdays and some Friday evenings

- Able to lift about 25 lb

- Safe Food Handling certification (or willing to get it before starting)

- Willing to learn and follow recipes exactly

Nice to have

- Experience in a kitchen, catering or food production

- Familiarity with West African or Nigerian cooking

- Own transportation in Ottawa

- Interest in growing with the business as hours increase
