Senior Engineer - Engineering Standards Program Lead

Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds A01

Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00

What you'll do

Lead and modernize the Engineering Standards Program at BC Hydro. In this senior engineering role, you will lead practical
improvements to how engineering standards are governed, published, accessed, maintained, and used across Engineering
so engineers can find, trust, and apply the right standards to support safe, consistent, high-quality engineering work.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established team, influence practices across engineering disciplines and
divisions, and modernize how engineering standards are governed, maintained, published, and continuously improved.

Working with standards owners, governance committees, engineering divisions, Records and Information Operations, IT
partners, and other stakeholders, you will work to align practices, resolve standards-related challenges, and deliver practical
improvements that strengthen quality, consistency, compliance, and usability.

Although the Engineering Practices team is part of Distribution Engineering and Standards, this role has Engineering-wide
influence and provides functional leadership rather than direct people leadership.

This role may be a strong fit for you if you enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, governance, information
management, digital tools, and continuous improvement; bringing people together across divisions; and turning complex
standards-related issues into clear actions, decisions, and practical improvements.

Specific Duties:

- Provide functional leadership for the Engineering Standards Program by improving governance frameworks, lifecycle

requirements, procedures, templates, roles, guidance, performance measures, and continuous improvement priorities.

- Lead the Engineering Standards Working Group (ESWG) by identifying, prioritizing, driving, tracking, and reporting on

cross-divisional action items, and escalating issues, risks, and recommendations to the Engineering Standards Governance

Committee (ESGC) for decision-making by division managers.

- Develop and improve digital tools, dashboards, and tracking systems that strengthen standards governance, controlled

publishing, searchability, reporting, publication readiness, and alignment with engineering standards requirements.

- Establish and manage a structured intake process for engineering standards suggestions, ensuring proposed changes are

captured, prioritized, assigned, tracked, and carried forward into future revision cycles using approved collaboration tools.

- Apply engineering governance judgement to assess publication readiness, including approvals, documentation

completeness, information classification, quality expectations, and related publication risks.

- Develop dashboards, metrics, reports, recommendations, presentations, and senior-management briefings that provide

visibility into the health of the Engineering Standards Program, action-item status, risk, and improvement priorities.

- Support safety through effective governance of the Engineering Standards Program. Recognize and escalate safety

implications when they arise. Ensure standards-development processes prompt accountable technical parties to apply
Safety by Design principles.

- Build effective relationships across engineering divisions, bring stakeholders together to resolve cross-series issues, and

provide coaching, guidance, and knowledge-sharing to support consistent engineering standards practices.

- Leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to assess, develop, and improve processes and tools that

enhance the effectiveness of the Engineering Standards Program.

- Support other Engineering Practices initiatives and improvement efforts as priorities evolve, contributing technical

expertise, coordination, analysis, and implementation support as required.

What you bring

- Degree in engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, engineering standards, professional

practice, governance, quality management, asset management, engineering delivery, or a related area. Strong candidates
who do not yet meet the Senior Engineer experience requirements may also be considered at the P2 Intermediate Engineer
level.

- Excellent facilitation, stakeholder management, presentation, and writing skills, including the ability to influence decisions,

explain complex issues clearly, and work effectively across multidisciplinary groups.

- Strong analytical,

critical-thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to exercise independent

judgement, identify and assess risks and complex problems, and develop and implement practical, customized, risk-
informed solutions.

- Experience using digital tools, automation, data visualization, dashboards, or AI-enabled solutions to improve engineering

workflows, governance processes, reporting, or decision support.

Additional experience that would be considered an asset includes:

- Practical experience developing, applying, reviewing, or governing engineering standards in design, construction,

operations, maintenance, asset management, or engineering project delivery.

- Experience in standards governance, engineering quality management, technical assurance, professional practice,

regulatory compliance, risk management, or process improvement.

- Experience with controlled publishing, records management, information classification, metadata, repository governance,

search, or standards-management systems.

- Electric utility experience in generation, transmission, distribution, asset management, engineering delivery, operations,

maintenance, or sustainment.

- Additional education or training in information management, records and information management, project management,

quality management, facilitation, change management, or process improvement.
