POSITION PURPOSE

The Outreach Coordinator serves as West Vancouver Presbyterian Church’s (WVPC) ‘strategic bridge’ to Vancouver's North Shore community. The primary purpose of this role is to conduct focused local research, relationship building, identify and validate unmet community needs, and translate those insights into prioritized, actionable outreach initiatives. By fostering collaborative internal partnerships and establishing a structured project delivery framework, the incumbent ensures the church’s missional footprint is impactful, highly integrated, and directly aligned with its vision, values and strategic goals.

Works in close collaboration with the Communications Officer on interlinked outreach and communication matters. Liaises as required with the Interim Moderator (Minister), Church Administrator, to provide relevant content for the website and for other outreach/communication tools (e.g. Sunday Bulletin). Communicates with church committee members, either individually or collectively, as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Community Research & Needs Validation: Proactively research and establish contact with regional community organizations, municipal agencies, and local groups (both established networks and undiscovered entities) and prepare profiles of potential partners / interest groups. Actively interview and engage stakeholders to confirm or test internal assumptions regarding community challenges, ensuring church resources address authentic, verified needs.
- Strategic Prioritization & Initiative Planning:

Design and execute an objective framework to assist leadership in prioritizing community initiatives consistent with WVPC’s Strategic Action Plan. For selected high-priority projects, formulate delivery plans, resource allocations, timeline benchmarks, and formal proposals for leadership review and approval.
- Cross-Functional Leadership Liaison: Act as the central operational link between the Outreach portfolio and other leadership bodies. Collaborate seamlessly with the Communications Officer, Session, and Board of Managers to guarantee that upcoming projects and events are systematically co-planned, prioritized, and widely publicized.
- Strategic Ideation & Advocacy: Serve as a creative, forward-thinking contributor to the church’s Strategic Action Plan. Advocate to the Session for original outreach concepts, innovative volunteer mobilization techniques, and new programmatic directions that maximise benefit to stakeholders, participants and WVPC.
- Volunteer Mobilization & Capacity Building: Support Project Leaders for the recruitment, training and organizing of congregational and external volunteers into dynamic project teams. Implement basic risk management protocols and provide ongoing mentorship to team leads to foster a thriving, safe culture of service.
- Impact Tracking & Relationship Management:

Establish qualitative and quantitative metrics to evaluate the health and success of outreach projects. Maintain a centralized database of regional partners, ensuring long-term institutional memory, reliable performance reporting, and strong ongoing external relationships.
