Prep and Line Cook, $20 to $25 an hour, home by four
We would support LMIA or AIP candidates as well.
$22 an hour if you have two years on a line. $25 if you have four or more. Cora experience pays more again, and the rates are further down. We put the numbers in the ad because you should not have to sit through an interview to find out whether the job is worth leaving your current one for.
Cora Halifax is on Dresden Row, off Spring Garden. We serve breakfast and lunch. The kitchen starts at 5:30 AM and the last person is out the door by four in the afternoon. There is no dinner service, no eleven o'clock finish, no split shift, and nobody is going to call you in at nine at night because someone walked out.
If you are reading this on a break at a job you do not hate but would leave for the right one, that is exactly who this is for.
The honest version of the work
Cora is a volume breakfast house. Eggs, crepes, French toast, fruit that gets cut fresh every single morning, and a lot of it, fast, to a spec that does not bend. This is not a kitchen where you will design the menu. It is a kitchen where you will get very good at consistency, hit a rush that is over by 1:00 PM, and then go home while the rest of the industry is setting up for dinner.
What the day holds: morning prep and fruit, the egg and crepe line through the breakfast rush, plates that match the picture every time, keeping your station clean as you go, and closing the kitchen down so tomorrow's 5:30 AM is not somebody else's problem.
What we need
- Two years or more cooking at a previous Cora location. Diner,
hotel breakfast, banquet, chain kitchen, is valued as well. Volume matters more than fine dining here
- You are awake and useful at 5:30 AM. This is the whole job. If mornings are not your thing, this is not your job and we would both rather know now
- Weekend availability. Breakfast is a weekend business, so it is part of the deal. Two days off a week, and no evenings, ever
- Legally able to work in Canada
What we pay
- $22 an hour with two years on a Cora line
- $25 an hour with four or more on a Cora line
Cora experience counts whether it was last month or five years ago. If you have already run a Cora line, you know the spec, you know the rush, and you will not spend a month learning either. We would rather pay for that than train it.
What else comes with it
- Tip share. On a breakfast room that turns tables quick, it is real money, not a rounding error
- Meals on shift
- Every evening of your life back
Who you would actually be working for
Cora Halifax is run by Chef's House Hospitality Group, a Halifax operator that also runs Scanway, Bells Lane Kitchen, Jolt and the coffee bar at the Halifax Citadel. Six brands, three kitchens, around sixty people. It is owned and run here by people you can walk up to, not by a head office in another province. If you want more hours, event work, or the step up to a lead, those jobs exist inside the group, and they get filled from inside first.
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Benefits:
- Discounted or free food
- Store discount
Work Location: In person
