Senior Structural Steel Fitter | Heavy Industrial Fabrication

Compensation: Starting at $40.00 per hour, with higher rates considered for exceptional experience.

Approximately located within 30 minutes of Hamilton, Woodstock, Brantford, Paris and Cambridge and surround communities.

This opportunity is intended for a number of seasoned tradespeople who take pride in precision workmanship, understands the complexities of heavy steel fabrication, and can confidently take a project from technical drawings through to final assembly.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work through challenging fabrication projects with limited supervision.

What You'll Be Doing

- Lead the fitting and assembly of large-scale steel structures, heavy plate components, and custom industrial fabrications.
- Translate detailed technical drawings into accurate layouts and completed assemblies.
- Plan efficient fitting and assembly methods for complex fabrication projects.
- Perform precision measuring, alignment, preparation, and fit-up of steel components.
- Identify and resolve fabrication challenges before they affect production or quality.
- Perform tack welding and coordinate with welding personnel to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect work throughout the fabrication process to ensure specifications and tolerances are achieved.
- Safely handle and position large steel components using appropriate lifting and rigging equipment.
- Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to developing tradespeople.
- Contribute to a productive, quality-focused, and safety-conscious shop environment.

What We're Looking For

- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in structural steel fitting, heavy industrial fabrication, or a closely related field.




- Proven ability to independently complete complicated layouts and assemblies.
- Advanced blueprint-reading skills and a thorough understanding of welding symbols and fabrication specifications.
- Practical experience working with heavy plate, structural members, and engineered steel assemblies.
- Proficiency in tack welding using FCAW and GTAW processes.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, equipment, and safe material handling practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to recognize potential fabrication issues.
- High standards for accuracy, workmanship, and efficiency.
- Previous experience providing technical direction or mentoring other tradespeople.
- CWB qualifications and relevant equipment certifications are considered assets.
