The Role
Hatch is seeking a Transmission Line Lead to join our Power practice, supporting clients across Canada. This is a hybrid technical and business development role: you'll bring deep transmission line engineering expertise to guide design quality and mentor our team, while also playing a lead role in growing our transmission line business — developing client relationships, shaping proposals, and identifying new project opportunities.
This role suits someone who wants more than a purely technical track or a purely sales track — someone who can walk into a client meeting as a trusted technical advisor and walk out with the next opportunity.
Your Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of transmission line engineers and designers, ensuring deliverables meet Hatch's engineering standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements across Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions.
- Provide senior technical oversight across the project lifecycle — from route selection and conceptual design through detailed design and construction support.
- Perform and oversee quality checks, technical reviews, and continuous improvement of design practices.
- Stay current on North American transmission standards (IEEE, ASCE, CSA, NESC) and apply the right standard to the right client and jurisdiction.
- Support staff development, technical training, and performance growth within the team.
Business Development & Client Growth
- Build and maintain relationships with utility and industrial clients across Canada and the U.S., acting as a trusted advisor on their transmission programs.
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities, market trends, and client needs within the transmission line sector.
- Lead or significantly contribute to proposal development, scoping, and pricing in coordination with pursuit and project teams.
- Represent Hatch at industry events, client forums, and professional associations to build the firm's profile in the transmission line market.
- Partner with Hatch's Power practice leadership to shape growth strategy for the transmission line service line in North America.
Project & Team Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, engineering managers, and internal disciplines to ensure timely, high-quality, and commercially sound delivery.
- Manage workload and priorities across the team in step with the broader project pipeline.
- Travel to client offices and project sites across Canada and the U.S. as needed, during project definition, design, and construction phases.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Demonstrated leadership in both a technical and client-facing capacity — you're equally comfortable reviewing a design and running a client pursuit.
- Strong track record of building and growing client relationships, ideally with utility clients in Canada and/or the U.S.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical detail for both engineering teams and client decision-makers.
- Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to set priorities and deliver against timelines and budgets.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD or equivalent transmission line design software.
- Working knowledge of North American and international transmission line standards and guidelines (IEEE, ASCE, CSA, NESC, IEC, CIGRE).
- Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. utility standards, permitting environments, and design practices.
- Experience with overhead transmission line design, including route selection, structure design across multiple types, materials (structures, conductor, OPGW, insulators, hardware and fittings), estimating, and construction suppor
