Engine Technician - Aviation

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to join a dedicated team of helicopter engine specialists in a fully renovated overhaul shop, focusing on Rolls-Royce M250 Series II, IV, and RR300 engines. You will perform complete engine disassembly, inspection, and assembly, work independently on complex technical tasks, and eventually take responsibility for signing off and releasing engines. The environment values robust mechanical aptitude, pride in workmanship, flexibility, and a willingness to learn and contribute to a close-knit team.

Responsibilities

- Disassemble Rolls-Royce M250 Series II, IV, and RR300 helicopter engines according to approved procedures and technical documentation.

- Inspect engine components using precision measuring tools and schematic diagrams to identify wear, damage, and required repairs.

- Perform engine repair, overhaul, and reassembly to meet quality, safety, and performance standards.

- Use standard mechanical tools, including wrenches, pliers, sockets, lockwire tools, and ratchets, to carry out maintenance and repair tasks.

- Interpret and follow technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance instructions for gas turbine engines.

- Work independently on engine builds and overhauls, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail throughout the process.

- Prepare engines for final sign-off and release, ensuring all inspection and documentation requirements are met.

- Maintain a clean, organized work area and take pride in workmanship, including cleaning up after tasks and supporting shop cleanliness.

- Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with general maintenance tasks in the building and supporting the broader needs of a small shop environment.

- Collaborate with a team of technicians with varying experience levels, sharing knowledge and supporting a positive, professional shop culture.

- Participate in ongoing training and, over time, help train junior technicians on M250 and RR300 engines.

- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of safety boots, glasses, and ear protection, and adhere to controlled goods requirements once obtained.

- Occasionally travel on service trips outside the country to support engine work at customer locations, as required.

- Accurately record work performed and time spent using the honour-system time card process.

Essential Skills

- Diploma in aircraft maintenance from a recognized institution, such as the BCIT Gas Turbine Technician Program, or equivalent education in aircraft maintenance.

- Capability to obtain Controlled Goods clearance and comply with related regulations.

- Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new procedures and technologies.

Why Work Here?

You will join a growing yet still close-knit organization that operates outside the pace and structure of major airlines and production chains,

offering a more personal and flexible work environment. Employees enjoy paid time off, group RRSP matching up to 3% of salary, and comprehensive medical and dental benefits. The culture emphasizes respect, recognition of anniversaries, and appreciation through regular coffee, donuts, and occasional lunches. Team members receive a boot allowance every two years, uniforms are provided, and there are opportunities for service trips outside the country, supporting both professional growth and variety in day-to-day work.

Work Environment

You will work alongside a team of six technicians whose experience ranges from 3 to 15 years, in a recently renovated, single-level engine overhaul shop with a pleasant temperature and a normal, steady pace. The workplace uses an honour-system time card, and the standard schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 07:00 to 15:30, with occasional additional hours as required. The environment focuses on helicopter engines, specifically Rolls-Royce M250 and RR300, and is equipped for detailed engine disassembly, inspection, and assembly. Technicians are expected to provide their own basic mechanical tools and may build up their toolset over time. Safety boots are required, while safety glasses and ear protection are provided. Uniforms are supplied, and the shop maintains a professional yet relaxed atmosphere where teamwork, flexibility, and pride in workmanship are highly valued.
