The Role
You'll work as part of a Hoover project team installing commercial HVAC and sheet metal systems on commercial and multi-residential construction projects throughout the Edmonton area.
Depending on your apprenticeship level and experience, your work may include:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and layout sketches
- Installing and fabricating sheet metal ductwork
- Installing VAV boxes and associated HVAC components
- Installing rooftop units and completing rooftop curb work
- Assisting with equipment installation and positioning
- Layout and coordination of sheet metal systems
- Working at heights and in confined or restricted spaces
- Coordinating with Foremen and other trades
- Helping maintain project schedules and quality standards
- Developing your skills under experienced Journeymen and field leadership
Your responsibilities and level of independence will increase as you progress through your apprenticeship.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for 1st through 4th Year Sheet Metal Apprentices who:
- Are currently registered in, or eligible to continue, a recognized Canadian Sheet Metal Worker apprenticeship
- Have previous construction site experience
- Are dependable, punctual and ready to work
- Take pride in doing quality work
- Work effectively as part of a crew
- Are comfortable working at heights and in tight spaces
- Can safely perform the physical requirements of the trade
- Have a basic set of required hand tools
- Can reliably attend project locations throughout the Edmonton area
- Understand that productivity, workmanship and safety all matter
First-Year Applicants First-year apprentices must have previous hands-on construction site experience.
You do not necessarily need extensive sheet metal experience, but you must already understand the basics of working safely and productively on an active construction site.
Applicants with no previous on-site construction experience will not be considered for this position.
Commercial, multi-residential,
HVAC or sheet metal installation experience is an asset at all apprenticeship levels.
Current safety certifications such as CSTS, WHMIS, Fall Protection, First Aid, Confined Space or equipment tickets are also considered assets.
Build More Than Your Hours An apprenticeship should be about more than accumulating enough hours to get your ticket.
At Hoover, we want our apprentices to develop the practical experience, technical knowledge and confidence they need to become strong Journeymen.
As you progress, you'll have opportunities to work on larger and more complex installations, take on additional responsibility and develop the skills needed for future Lead Hand and Foreman positions.
We support that development through hands-on project experience, apprenticeship progression and internal training.
If you want to learn the trade, do good work and continue moving forward, there is room to build a long-term career here.
