310S Automotive Service Technician — Master Mechanic Waterloo

$40/hour | 40 paid hours per week | Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. | Paid lunch | No evenings or weekends

Take pride in understanding the whole vehicle? We’re looking for an experienced, licensed 310S technician who is passionate about giving customers an honest, complete picture of their vehicle’s condition and needs. We value evidence-based diagnosis, thorough inspections, and clear explanations that help customers make informed repair and maintenance decisions.

What we offer

- $40 per hour in hourly pay.
- A Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. schedule with paid lunch: 40 paid hours per week.
- Evenings and weekends free.
- Paid time for diagnostic testing, multipoint inspections, documenting findings, and verifying repairs.
- Employer-sponsored health and dental advantages are not currently offered.

What you’ll do
- Perform thorough road tests to confirm customer concerns and verify completed repairs.
- Complete detailed multipoint inspections that give customers the full picture, distinguishing immediate concerns from upcoming maintenance and items to monitor.
- Diagnose faults using test-based evidence, service information, wiring diagrams, scan tools, and automotive lab scopes. Interpret live data and waveforms, test your conclusions, and document the results.
- Write clear inspection reports explaining what you found, why it matters, and what you recommend, supported by measurements, test results, and photos where appropriate.
- Document diagnostic procedures clearly so the service advisor and another technician can follow the concern, tests performed, results, and conclusions.
- Estimate labour times realistically and anticipate obstacles such as corrosion,

seized hardware, difficult access, and previous repairs. Communicate potential additional work or delays early.
- Perform repairs and maintenance accurately, follow appropriate service procedures, and verify the finished work.
- Work closely with the service advisor to communicate evidence-backed recommendations and transparent priorities for the customer.
- Maintain a safe, organized work area and take care of customer vehicles.

What you’ll bring
- A valid Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician licence.
- A valid full Ontario Class G driver’s licence and a clean driving record.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing vehicles independently, with sound judgment about testing, repair procedures, and labour estimates.
- Confidence using automotive lab scopes and scan tools for diagnosis, including interpreting waveforms and live data.
- Strong written communication skills for multipoint inspections and diagnostic documentation.
- Your own complete set of professional automotive tools appropriate for an experienced technician, including hand tools, cordless and/or pneumatic impact guns, air ratchets, die grinders, and other tools needed for routine repairs.
- Pride in thorough workmanship, honest recommendations, and helping customers understand their vehicle’s needs.

Location: Master Mechanic Waterloo, 615 Davenport Road,

Waterloo, ON N2V 2G2. This is an in-person, full-time position. Apply with your resume. Tell us briefly about a diagnostic problem you solved using testing and evidence, and how you documented the findings.

Pay: $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Application question(s)

- You receive a work order stating: “ABS warning light came on a couple of days ago. Customer has not noticed any other changes.” The customer has authorized one hour of diagnostic labour.

Describe how you would approach this job from receiving the work order through documenting and communicating your findings. Include approximately how you would allocate the authorized hour, how test results would guide your next steps, and what you would do if you could not reach a confirmed diagnosis within that time. There is no predetermined fault. We’re interested in your reasoning and workflow, rather than a list of possible failed parts.
- A customer brings in a used vehicle they are considering buying and requests a pre-purchase inspection.

Describe your process from receiving the work order through presenting your findings. Explain how you would organize the inspection, prioritize what you find, and document the vehicle’s condition so the customer can make an informed purchase decision. Include how you would handle anything that needs further testing or cannot be confirmed during the inspection.
- What is the single most important thing you’re looking for in your next role that’s missing from your current or most recent job?

Licence/Certification:
- Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician licence (required)
