Baker / Prep
We’re a small, owner-run bakery on Huntley Rd in Parksville, making naturally leavened sourdough, pastries and seasonal bakes. Our kitchen is fully open, so everything we do is on show.
This role is built on repetition. You’ll make the same things, the same way, every day, until they’re second nature. Once you’ve mastered the basics, there’s real room to get creative and help develop new bakes and specials with us.
We are a small team and everyone does a bit of everything. Your job will have its focus, but we will need someone who is flexible and able to jump in and help where needed, including dishwashing and cleaning.
What you’ll do
- Baking cakes and making cookie doughs
- Making glazes, pastry creams, ganaches and other components
- Some dough mixing
- Weigh ups for the next day’s bake
- Packing wholesale orders
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organised
What we’re looking for
- Professional kitchen or bakery experience (required)
- Quick and tidy, without cutting corners
- You take pride in consistency
- Happy working on your own or alongside the team
- You speak up,
ask questions, and can take constructive feedback
- You show up on time, are kind to others and can stay calm under pressure
- Food Secure Level 1 (or willing to get it within your first 30 days)
- Able to lift 25kg
What we provide Starting at $24/hr. We don’t take tips, so the wage reflects that.
And when you’re off, you’re off. No group chats or emails on your days off, unless it’s about the schedule / payroll.
Hours
3 - 4 shifts a week to start, Wednesday to Saturday. Shifts are 10am to 6:30pm or 11am to 7:30pm.
Ideally we would work out a consistent schedule that works for both sides. Some flexibility might be needed during seasonal / busier times.
