Position Overview:

As a Flooring Sales Associate, you will serve as a knowledgeable sales professional, providing fast, friendly, and expert service to DIY customers and professional contractors alike. You will actively engage customers to assess their renovation needs, provide information on product features, and recommend the best solutions to help them complete their entire project. You will also maintain the department's visual standards, inventory, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Engagement & Consultative Selling

- Actively seek out and greet customers on the sales floor and ask open-ended questions to determine project scope, measurements, budget, and customer expertise.
- Engage customers using a "good, better, best" strategy and suggest all related items required to finish the installation (underlayment, transitions, trim, grout, adhesives, and tools).
- Promote Special Services: Inform customers about store-supported credit programs, delivery options, tool rentals, and professional installation services.
- Generate Quotes & Material Lists: Utilize store computer systems to create detailed material estimates, process customer orders, and generate price quotes for residential or commercial projects.

Department Merchandising & Inventory Maintenance Execute daily inventory maintenance by ensuring all merchandise is fully stocked, neatly displayed, clean, and accurately priced or signed

Maintain up-to-date flooring sample displays, ordering replacements for damaged or discontinued product vignettes as needed.

Safely move bulk pallets or boxes of tiles, laminate, and rolls of carpet from overhead storage areas down to the picking shelves.

Product Knowledge & Skills Development





Continuous Learning: Proactively develop and maintain deep product knowledge regarding materials, installation techniques, subfloor preparation, and complementary materials.

Cross-Department Familiarity: Build basic knowledge of adjacent departments (such as Building Materials, Lumber, and Paint) to seamless guide customers through multi-room construction project

Safety, Security & Compliance

- Maintain Safety Standards: Follow all corporate safety guidelines, equipment operation policies, and Loss Prevention procedures.
- Clean Warehouse Environment: Keep aisles transparent of debris, cut plastic wraps, and organize heavy inventory to ensure a safe, clean, and accessible shopping environment for all guests.

Required Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or equivalent preferred; previous experience in home improvement retail, big-box environments, flooring sales, or construction is a major asset.

Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to stand for long periods and comfortably perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, and moving heavy merchandise (e.g., boxes of tile or rolls of underlayment).
